Koenigsegg has announced an extensive expansion plan that puts the supercar automaker on a path to hire another 100 engineers and 150 production staff by the end of 2023, build a new factory for the Koenigsegg Gemera supercar, create a customer experience center, and potentially even throw in a new race track for funsies.
The expansion plans would see the company’s total headcount grow to 800 employees. Koenigsegg’s Gemera factory production footprint in Valhall park-Koenigsegg’s private Air Force hangar field near the airport in Ängelholm, Sweden-will grow to 30,000 square meters. It sounds like something out of a James Bond movie—or, given all the happy-go-lucky outdoor space, maybe a tech company campus—and the renderings also do not disappoint.
CEO and Founder Christian von Koenigsegg reflected on how far his little company has come: “Looking back at where we started 27 years ago, it’s incredible to think of the journey we have been on. Our expansion is a mark of our past and future relevance where we are geared towards delivering bleeding-edge mobility tech and our handcrafted ultimate performance automobiles. “
Koenigsegg Gemera Production
The new factory will feature the company’s latest production technology for the Gemera assembly line. There’s also a new 800 square-meter customer experience and showroom center that will serve double-duty for staging live company announcements. On-site company office announcements may become a trend, as boutique automakers move to host on-site events at “home” rather than bend to the schedules of industry events and trade shows.
The exciting feature of the expansion is the on-site, “technical” race-track for vehicle prototype and pre-delivery testing. Maybe they’ll let you do some of the delivery testing in your new car, too, if you ask nicely. It’s not a novel idea-Porsche will let their owners do it in Georgia, and Rimac recently announced its own potential growth plans for a new customer-experience track.
Koenigsegg Customer Experience
The “ultra-modern” customer lounge will offer a real-time vehicle specialization process with a “life-size” model, and classic Koenigsegg cars will be featured on a “rotating” display. Manicured, interactive green spaces, gym accommodations, “alfresco” staff dining decks, and planted trees are promised for employee wellbeing.
Designed For Growth
The exterior of the Gemera factory expansion is accordion-like, said to be modeled after old Swedish factory architecture designed to maximize “space and daylight.” The design is also expandable for factory and production growth, as well as new “megacar engineering and technology initiatives.” Koenigsegg says it will install new solar panels “to the maximum extent” to help limit its energy footprint.
