2023 EV6 GT
Kia is showing off its supercar killer at the Monterey Car week – the all-electric crossover Kia EV6 GT. As unsuspecting as it may seem, the EV6 GT is currently the most powerful Kia production vehicle ever, producing 585 hp & 740 Nm, and recording a 3.4 second 0-100 km/h time.
To prove its killer instincts, the Korean carmaker has even put the EV6 GT in an AMCI-certified drag race against a Ferrari Roma and Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder RWD. This resulted in the Kia EV6 GT out accelerating both the Ferrari and the Lamborghini, each with a supposed 3.4 s and 3.5 s century sprint time respectively.
Even when you put the Kia EV6 GT against the fully-electric Porsche Taycan, it is only 0.2 seconds slower than the Taycan Turbo (0-100 km/h in 3.2 s), and 0.6 seconds slower than the Taycan Turbo S (0-100 km/h in 2.8 s). Enabling the Kia’s 3.4 s century sprint time is a dual motor system with a 160 kW (217 hp) motor in front and a 270 kW (367 hp) motor in the rear.
Upgrades to the GT version of the Kia EV6 also include larger diameter disc brakes (15” front / 14.2” rear) with quad-piston front calipers, stiffened chassis, quicker ratio steering, electronically controlled suspension, and Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (e-LSD). Spicing things up in the EV6 GT is a “Drift Mode” that distributes all power to the rear wheels. Drivers can also create custom-tailored settings to suit individual driving preferences using My Drive Mode.
Powering the entire car is a 77.4 kWh battery, the same battery you get in the regular Kia EV6. While the regular EV6 provides a WLTP range of 506 km, the EV6 GT has traded performance for range, only providing 423 km of range. The Kia EV6 GT also showcases the world-first patented multi-charging system supporting 400v and 800v DC charging, which works on DC chargers with speeds ranging from 50kW to 350kW.
On the outside, subtle enhancements can be seen on the EV6 GT. This includes front and rear fascia unique to the GT, a rear aero spoiler, and a diffuser. The EV6 GT sits on 21-inch alloy wheels with neon-accented brake calipers.
Inside, vegan suede-trimmed, deeply bolstered performance front bucket seats are inscribed with the ‘GT’ moniker and green piping. EV6 GT-only touches include neon accents, lightweight front bucket seats, and a striped motif.
Like all EV6 models, the EV6 GT is part of the Kia “Plan S” strategy to launch at least two battery-electric vehicles (BEV) per year and build a full line-up of 14 BEVs by 2027. The amped up EV SUV will go on sale in the US by Q4 2022.
