LOS ANGELES: Following Karma Automotive’s announcement of its electric vehicle (EV) E-Flex platform with supercar-capable architecture last month, its engineers have now begun testing the platform in an all-wheel-drive (AWD) performance prototype vehicle.
Equipped with Karma’s racing-inspired E-Flex platform suitable for both road and track applications, the AWD performance prototype aims to achieve 1,100hp.
A combination of attributes includes 14,000Nm of torque, electronic torque vectoring as well as front and rear-mounted dual-electric motors.
The front and rear dual electric motors – together with a flat-floor that houses the 120kWh battery, provide the prototype with an optimal near-50:50 weight distribution and up to 640km of pure-electric range.
The AWD performance EV prototype’s electric motors are touted to have experienced over a 1.6mil kilometres of testing in the company’s luxury electric Revero GT.
The company said that dynamic and static tests are part of its comprehensive validation process to ensure the car will meet customer and partner expectations and demands in global markets.
Engineers from the company recently conducted dynamic testing at its Thermal Club race track in the state of California in the US as well as other performance circuits and conditions.
The prototype helps to demonstrate the company’s vision for future products, in addition to showcasing its mobility solutions available to other OEMs, startups and automakers wishing to develop their own high-performance EV.
The company stated that Karma’s platform can be applied to both track and street while providing the instant torque, handling and sustainability of an all-electric vehicle.
The prototype can be retrofitted to existing products and developed for new electric supercar applications – both for Karma and prospective partners.
In addition, the company recently announced that it plans to build the Revero GTE – an all-electric, twin motor variation of its Revero GT which should make its debut in 2021.
“We aim to make sure the platform is capable of achieving leading standards in the supercar sector and is superior in every sense,” said Karma Automotive chief technology officer Kevin Zhang.
