Harri Jones enjoyed a solid return in first first appearance at Monaco.
Porsche Mobil1 Supercup
Reigning Australian Carrera Cup Champion, Harri Jones showed some positive signs after making his Porsche Supercup debut in Monaco over the weekend.
After qualifying outside the top 10, Jones worked his way through the grid in the one and only race of the weekend on the streets of Monte Carlo to finish in ninth place overall.
With some points on the board, Jones also found himself on the podium after finishing third in the Rookie class – a great achievement on such a difficult circuit to debut.
Jones will now look ahead to Spielberg, Austria when the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup once again joins the Formula 1 race weekend on 30 June to 2 July.
Formula 2
Jack Doohan’s podium chances went up in flames during Sunday’s Formula 2 Feature Race at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Running in fourth place, Doohan crashed into the wall at Massenet corner after originally sustaining damage through the swimming pool chicane not long before.
Aware of the dangerous position he was in, the Alpine Reserve Driver quickly jumped out of the car and over the barriers before his car quickly burst into flames – the race being red flagged as a result.
It’s a bitterly disappointing after the Queenslander qualified in fourth place on Saturday before crossing the line in sixth for the reverse grid sprint race.
A lack of points across the weekend means Doohan sits 13th in the championship – 61 points behind the leader.
The next round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship will take place in Barcelona as part of the Spanish Grand Prix on 2-4 June.
Formula 3
It was a weekend to forget for all three young Australians in Monte Carlo after finishing in the bottom half of the grid for Sunday’s Formula 3 feature race.
Unable to qualify in the top half of the grid, Hugh Barter, Christian Mansell and Tommy Smith were stranded in both the reverse grid sprint race and feature race across the weekend.
Barter was unable to move his way up any higher than 25th on the grid in the sprint after sustaining damage from another car in the early stages of the race – resulting in an unplanned pit-stop for the Australian.
There were still some positives to take out of the weekend as he posted the fastest lap in that session but was unable to turn it into a result in the feature race as he finished in the same position.
Further up the grid, Mansell finished 17th and 20th in both races respectively, while Smith endured the best result of the three with a 15th place finish in the feature race.
Mansell remains on the only driver to have scored points so far this season, currently sitting 16th in the Championship while Barter sits in 19th – two places ahead of Smith in 21st.
The FIA Formula 3 Championship will now make its way to Barcelona for the fifth round of its season on 2-4 June.
