The show will launch on Disney+ in April.
Jeremy Renner, who needs no introduction, will launch an all-new show called Rennervations on Disney+. Renner is a well-known car lover and even agreed to be the guest star in the first-ever episode of The Grand Tour.
As you'd expect from a show starring a two-time Academy Award nominee (The Hurt Locker and The Town), this isn't your typical fixer-upper where a crew has a limited time to build a car and get it to an auction lot. All the vehicles featured in the show have a noble purpose, and Renner teams up with various other celebrities who help him along the way.
“I've been on this journey for many years, and I started in my community by building vehicles for people in need. But a few years ago, I thought, how can I plus this up and create a bigger impact on a whole community – and that's what this show does,” said Renner. “This is one of my biggest passions, and it's a driving force in my recovery, and I can't wait for the world to see it.”
As you may have heard, Renner had a negative encounter with a snowcat late last year. He's fine, but we haven't heard from the snowcat since. If you're wondering who will take over as the internet's Chuck Norris after he shuffles off this mortal coil, here's your answer.
Renner is not just another celebrity seeking attention for good deeds. He is a construction veteran with a passion for restoring vehicles with the help of his connections in the global fabricator scene. For Rennervations, Renner teamed up with his business partner, Rory Millikin, and an experienced build crew. The full team includes Corey Wardleigh, lead mechanic, and Rob “Bender” Park, lead fabricator, supported by a build crew. They are Roxy Bonilla, Justin Self and Merri Oswald, Akamu “AK” Whatley, Skiland “Ski” Judd, Ryan Gunter, and Nick Socha.
The team travels the globe to find decommissioned vehicles to rebuild them into something useful that will serve the local community.
Renner also teams up with a celebrity partner and a charity organization in each of the four episodes.
Renner and Vanessa Hudgens rebuild a tour bus into a mobile music studio for THE BASE in Chicago. The latter offers various after-school programs to keep kids off the streets in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The bus serves as a piece of inspiration for the kids. Obviously, it provides them with a musical outlet by recording music, playing instruments, and generally learning about the music industry.
Renner teams up with Anil Kapoor in India to build a mobile water treatment center for Uva Jagriti Sansthan, a nonprofit that delivers clean drinking water to communities nationwide. In Mexico, they create a portable dance studio in a city bus. The charity, in this case, is Casa Hogar of Cabo San Lucas, which offers full-time care to kids who can't live with their families.
Back home in Reno, Renner and Anthony Mackie team up to build a mobile recreational center for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada. You may know Mackie as the new Captain America, but in 2008 Renner and Mackie also starred together in The Hurt Locker. The build involves a shuttle bus, repurposed with a basketball hoop, a soccer goal, and a computer lab. The mobile rec center can drive to all the underserved rural communities that need it.
As you can see, this brand-new restoration format does not include a Dodge Charger, Ford Bronco, or a ratty old Honda Civic. We've seen the above many times before and can't wait for 12 April to see this new global and charitable take on the formula.
