These new trim packages are a good way to build a bit of interest and draw some new traffic to showrooms.
Manufacturers know that even their hottest-selling models can benefit from a couple of new features after it has been on sale for a year or two. Jeep’s been busy cooking up a brace of special edition packages for the Wrangler to help keep the momentum going.
First up is the Wrangler Willys, a trim we last saw on the previous-generation JK Wrangler. This time around, it packs enough off-road kit to turn it into a Rubicon-lite. On board is a limited-slip diff out back, plus a set of Rubicon rock rails and shocks. Heavy-duty brakes have been fitted behind 32-inch Firestone mud terrains. These features, combined with Jeep’s Command-Trac two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear, build up the Willys’ off-road cred.
They’ll be easy to spot on the road, too. A gloss black grille stands out, along with military script hood decals and unique 17-inch black wheels. Plenty of colour choice will be on tap, as Jeep is offering all ten of its paint selections – from Hellayella and Punk’n to Mojito! and Firecracker Red – on the Willys. Expect to find a sticker of $33,740 for the two-door model and $37,240 for the four-door version.
Elsewhere in the showroom, Jeep will be offering a Black & Tan package for those who want a bit more of a retro look. Available in all exterior colors, the Jeep Wrangler Black & Tan edition features 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, side steps, low lloss badging and – as you’d guess from its name – a tan soft top.
That tan colour extend to the interior, where it shows up on the seats. The instrument panel will be painted black and a Technology Group, which includes the 7-inch Uconnect and dual-zone climate control, will be standard equipment. Prepare to shell out $32,940 for the two-door model and an MSRP of $36,440 for the four-door rig.
In this country, the Wrangler is far and away Jeep’s best-selling model. Moving 13,550 units through the first six months of this year represents well over a third of the brand’s total volume. Sales are off by about 17% compared to this same time last year, likely a result of pent up demand for the new model in 2018. These new trim packages are a good way to build a bit of interest and draw some new traffic to showrooms.
