The Morgan 3 Wheel in its current form is to leave production this year, but Jay Leno gave this reborn classic one last hurrah.
The Morgan 3 Wheeler is a car that can vividly trace its inception back to 1911 when the British marque launched a single seat three wheeled car. This micro machine actually became very popular, and multiple variants were spawned including a series of more aerodynamic sporting models. In modern motoring the 3 Wheeler was reborn in 2012 with this quirky car gaining many fans. One such enthusiasts was none other than Jay Leno.
Jay Leno might be best known for being the comedian who presented America’s biggest talk show for decades, but he is also noteworthy for his incredible car collection. This big kid has everything from steam-powered cars to the latest in hyper car exotica, with many being the star of his YouTube channel Jay Leno’s Garage. This guy knows his onions, and his attention has turned to the little Morgan this week.
Morgan recently announced that the 3 Wheeler in its current guise would be discontinued this year due to emissions regulations, however, a successor is on the cards further down the line. The two-seat British sports car currently makes use of an S&S V-twin engine that sits proudly on display at its nose. It’s a wonderfully simplistic cocktail of lightweight motoring at its purest. Clearly it was a success back in its day, and the modern car has enjoyed a cult following for just how wonderfully unique it is on today’s roads.
Leno is a big fan of the car and actually has an original in his collection. Curiously, his 1932 Morgan was actually built in 1946 due to the car’s order being taken before World War Two, but being completed post-war. It is in incredible condition and highlights the vivid lineage between old and new.
Hitting the road, Leno remarks “I realised a long time ago that I’m not a race car driver, but I like to drive. I like to drive things that are interesting, and when I drive by myself I can go at my own pace, as fast or slow as I want. I have a good time, and this car really lets you have a good time.”
