PETALING JAYA: Isuzu Malaysia’s 4,237 units sold in the first half of 2022 (1H22) jumped 143% over the corresponding period of 2021.
Significantly, the volume in 1H22 almost matches the 4,601-unit total achieved throughout 2021 and moves the brand up to the third spot in the pick-up truck segment.
The Japanese truck giant triggered a global phenomenon with the all-new Isuzu D-Max redefining the way pick-up trucks look, feel and perform when the third-generation model was introduced recently.
From its hard working Single Cab model to the impressively sophisticated and feature-packed top-of-the-line X-Terrain variant, Isuzu has been able to engineer greater capabilities into these trucks while refining its comfort, safety and driving pleasure.
Isuzu Malaysia chief executive officer Shunsuke Okazoe said the company had seen a growing interest in pick-up truck usage since the introduction of the new D-Max.
He said many first-time buyers and upgraders have been impressed by the way the new D-Max had blurred the lines between a tough and capable pick-up truck with the comfort and sophistication of a family saloon.

The 1.9-litre Blue Power variants have undoubtedly been the most popular choice among Malaysians, making up close to 80% of the total due to its remarkably-flexible engine performance, exemplary fuel efficiency, clockwork reliability and the commanding the lowest road tax in the market.
The flagship X-Terrain variant has also made tremendous inroads as well, making up 10% of the total volume.
This is a significant achievement for Isuzu considering that it has never had a strong offering in the lifestyle segment before, concentrating on dependable workhorses in its earlier iterations.
The X-Terrain comes with a host of top-notch safety features, premium comfort, refinement and style that has given customers a tremendously desirable vehicle that ticks all the right boxes.
Isuzu Malaysia chief operating officer Kenkichi Sogo said the X-Terrain has gained a strong following particularly among urban users.
“Many have found the X-Terrain to be the ideal extension of their lifestyle activities offering the ideal balance of space, capability, comfort and safety.
“With the recent updates made to the X-Terrain including the new colours, welcome light, scuff plates, wireless Qi charger and Around View Monitor, it is even more desirable vehicle that allows owners to do more without boundaries,” he said.
The D-Max range is available in eight variants, mostly featuring 4X4 capability.
The sole 4X2 automatic variant available to provide long-distance travellers and urban users the flexibility and versatility while enjoying lower running costs.
