Malaysian sales of the third-generation has been nothing short of a winner for Isuzu, with sales so far in 2022 nearly double what was achieved last year, simultaneously making it their best-selling model since Isuzu Malaysia’s inception in 2004.
The 3S newly-opened 3S centre
“Last year, sales [of the D-Max] was 4,600 units. This year, at the end of September, we have 7,000. Sales is quite good,” remarked Kenkichi Sogo, Isuzu Malaysia’s Executive Director. He was speaking at the media briefing of the opening of their Autoexec Corporation 3S centre in Jinjang, Kepong, earlier this morning (1-Nov 2022).
The updated D-Max X-Terrain adds a 360 cam, amidst puddle lights, a Qi wireless charger, and illuminated scuff plates
These numbers give the D-Max an approximately 17 percent share of Malaysia’s pick-up truck market, good for third place, behind the dominating Hilux, followed by the Triton. Nonetheless Isuzu Malaysia is set for a record-breaking year, backed by strong demand: Sogo says that waiting lists stretches between 3 to 4 months for the range-topping X-Terrain variant.
The Premium variant
And of these, what are the ones most vouched for? “Our best selling model is the auto Premium. Number 2 is the auto Standard, these two are the best-selling,” said Sogo, who is also Isuzu Malaysia’s Chief Operating Officer, Light Commercial Vehicle Division.
The cheaper 4×2 Auto Plus
It’s not hard to understand why, and the D-Max is a multi-talented truck that certainly has a lot going for it, and the updated top variant, the X-Terrain, brings with it a host of ADAS features to sweeten the deal.
Isuzu offers both single- and double-cab variants of the D-Max here. Peninsula Malaysia prices for the lot are as below:
