The Lexus RX is the best-selling model in the lineup, but the current generation is starting to hear Taps playing in the background. The current model rides on a 2015 platform, and it’s time for a redesign. Along with this new version of the 2023 Lexus RX luxury SUV, we see three hybrid options offered that make this SUV the fuel-sipping luxury ride you want to drive.

What changes with the new version of this Lexus luxury SUV?

The 2023 Lexus RX rides on the same platform as the Toyota RAV4 and Lexus NX. Toyota has long made several vehicles out of only a few platforms, which means we should still see the qualities and build we expect out of this midsize crossover that we’ve seen in the past. The new RX is lighter and lower than the previous model, making it more responsive and agile.
How has the design changed in the RX?
The outgoing model of this Lexus SUV is curvy. We expect to see some curves, but the designers have updated the style of this SUV with a sharper edge to the hood and a floating roof design. The C-pillars are blacked-out to give a floating feeling to the roof. The traditional spindle grille is different, offering a modern look to the trademark feature.
Let’s get into the Lexus RX hybrid models
2023 Lexus RX 450h | Lexus
We no longer see a V6 engine under the hood of the 2023 Lexus RX. Instead, there are four powertrain options, three of which are hybrid.
The base model is the only one that doesn’t use a hybrid powertrain. The RX 350 has a turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 275 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque which is sent through an 8-speed automatic transmission. You can have this version in FWD or AWD. This base version is good for 24 mpg combined.
Moving to the first of the hybrids, the RX 350h, you’ll find a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine matched with a hybrid system. The transmission is a CVT, which sends 246 horsepower and 233 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. Choose the 350h, and you’ve got a luxury SUV good for 33 mpg combined.
Next, we have the plug-in hybrid RX 450h+ which Lexus is hushed on details. We expect this model could use the same powertrain as the NX 450h+, which offers 302 horsepower and 37 miles of electric driving.
Finally, we see the Lexus RX 500h F Sport Performance Edition which delivers a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors. This power routes through a sport-tuned 6-speed automatic transmission to deliver 367 horsepower to your driving experience. This performance version of the 2023 Lexus RX should still return 26 mpg combined.
When will the new 2023 Lexus RX luxury SUV arrive?

The new generation lineup of the RX should reach the market by the end of 2022. Between now and then, we should learn more about this SUV that ensures it will continue to be the top-selling model in the Lexus lineup.
