Ingeteam, an electrical engineering company headquartered in Spain, has revealed plans to expand its production facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The investment, totalling over $20m, will bring the company’s output in line with recent infrastructure funding.
The Biden-Harris administration reportedly plans to set up a national network of 500,000 EV chargers across US highways. Ingeteam says it will increase its production capacity of DC Fast Chargers and L2 EV chargers for the US market.
The company’s new EV charger production lines in Milwaukee will have the capacity to manufacture more than 13,000 units annually and will be Buy America compliant under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, Ingeteam informs.
In addition to deploying its R&D technology and experience of making over 35,000 EV chargers worldwide to Milwaukee, Ingeteam’s new production line will manufacture its latest DC Fast Charger RAPID 180 kW. Production of this charger is set to begin by the second half of 2023.
Jesus Rodriguez, Executive Vice President of Ingeteam EV Chargers USA, stated that “this significant investment, in addition to the more than $20 million already invested in our cutting-edge manufacturing plant since 2010, will add up to one hundred new well-paying jobs to the region and our production facility in Milwaukee, WI over the next five years.”
The expansion of Ingeteam’s EV charger manufacturing capabilities will be in addition to its current operations in the US. The company has produced over 4,000 of its Indar brand wind turbine generators since opening in 2010 and supplied 2.5 GW of solar and energy storage inverters to the US market.
The company, founded in Spain in 1972, has supplied electronics solutions across various industries. In recent years, Ingeteam has expanded its focus on the EV charging market and has a presence in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
In Europe, Ingeteam is part of project Plug and Charge Europe alongside major players such as BMW AG, Groupe Renault, Stellantis, Tritium and Volkswagen AG, and Shell, bp, and Total since 2021. That same year, Ingeteam also joined Iberdrola in announcing plans for a megawatt charging corridor in the Mediterranean region.
