IMSA has today announced the 2024 calendar for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship which will return to Detroit and not attend Lime Rock Park for the first time since 2020.

The 2024 calendar will see a return to Detroit for the series, and the addition of a fifth IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup round.

Prior to the championship getting into full swing, the Roar Before the Rolex 24 warm-up event will take place at Daytona on 19-21 January.

The series will get underway properly with the hotly contested Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona International Speedway, with the GTP, LMP2, GTD Pro and GTD classes racing in the 62nd running of the event on 25-28 January.

All four classes will score points in the 24-hour race, a first for the LMP2 class since 2019, and the Rolex 24 at Daytona is the first of five IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup series.

The 2024 calendar continues with the second IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup event, the 12 Hours of Sebring on 13-16 March, with all four classes in action.

The series then moves to Long Beach on 19-20 April for the first non-endurance event, with just GTP and GTD cars in action for the 100-minute Acura Grand Prix.

As it stands, the Long Beach event is set to run on the same weekend as the World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of Imola.

From Long Beach, IMSA will head to Laguna Seca, for a two-hour and 40-minute race at the WeatherTech Raceway on the weekend of 10-12 May featuring GTP, GTD Pro and GTD entries.

Again, just like Long Beach, IMSA’s action at Laguna Seca will clash with the WEC, with the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps set to run on 11 May.

The next event on the calendar is the second of the year’s two 100-minute races and a return to the city of Detroit. The race weekend will see GTP and GTD Pro entries compete from 31 May-1 June around the city’s downtown street circuit.

After Detroit, the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup resumes with Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen at Watkins Glen International circuit in New York’s Finger Lakes region on 27-30 June, with all four classes competing.

The seventh venue on the calendar is Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, and whereas this year the circuit played host to every class, in 2024, the event will be led by the LMP2 class, with the GTD Pro and GTD categories also racing across the weekend of 12-14 July and vying for glory in the two-hour and forty-minute race.

GTP will return to action at Road America on 2-4 August, alongside LMP2, GTD Pro and GTD for the only two-hour and forty-minute race to feature every category.

Next up is the solely GT contested event of the 2024 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, as the GTD Pro and GTD field swap the 2023 Lime Rock Park venue for the Virginia International Raceway next year on 23-25 August.

The season will then conclude with the final two IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup rounds, the first being at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

IMS has returned to the IMSA calendar in 2023 for the first time since 2014, with a two-hour and forty-minute race set to take place in August, but next year, the circuit will host a six-hour race on the weekend of 20-22 September, with GTP, LMP2, GTD Pro and GTD in attendance.

Finally, the 2024 schedule will host the fifth IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup round, namely the 10-hour Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, with proceedings for the GTP, LMP2, GTD Pro and GTD runners taking place on October 9-12.
