BOONE, Iowa – When it comes to tough customers at Boone Speedway in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod ranks, Jake Sachau is among one of those names mentioned.
He has been a beast at Iowa’s Action Track in 2022 and will look to extend that success to the 40th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.
“I just need to keep my momentum going that I’ve had here all year,” commented Sachau, “I’ve been really fast here all year, and one more week to stay fast.”
The Manning, Iowa, motorist has made The Big Dance once in his career. That was in 2016 when he ended in sixth. That was also the same season he had his best qualifier result, which was second. Track champion Sachau has six main event victories at Boone this year and finished eighth in Sunday’s Wild Rose Casino Prelude show.
“I learned a lot racing at Boone this year. We weren’t planning on running here this year, but that’s the way it worked out,” he said. “I know how to get around the track a little bit better, what you can do to your race car and how hard you have to drive through the heat race if you draw badly.”
Overall, he’s amassed twenty feature wins in 2022 and chases a career first state championship.
Caudle hopes to rock it at Super Nationals

Ellsworth driver Rocky Caudle is set to take on the competition at the 40th annual IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod hotshoe comes to town knowing he’ll be racing against many of the best drivers in the division during the week at Boone Speedway.
“First thing first is to come in here and make the show,” stated Caudle, “and if you can make the show, you just go from there and see what the track does. We are all here for the same goal: To win the big one, and my goal isn’t any different from anyone else’s.”
Caudle has made a handful of qualifiers during his Super Nationals career. The 2022 season has seen a limited schedule for his race team, with most of those starts coming at Boone.
“We haven’t been racing that much. I hope we can turn it around here at the Super Nationals,” he said.
Young Czarneski pulling double duty at Super Nationals

To run one division at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s can be an arduous task.
But to run two? Well, that takes a lot of hard work and determination. Nevertheless, young lion Cole Czarneski looks to be up for the job in both the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.
“This is my first year in the Stock Car and second year in the SportMod,” said the 17-year-old Czarneski. “Last year we brought the SportMod and were in a transfer spot but got caught up in a racing deal. We just want to get in the dance because the big part is to get in the features through your heat, and then you just got to survive.”
The Denmark, Wis., driver made a Northern SportMod qualifier last year and hopes to make the dance for both divisions. He will be getting a lot of track experience by driving in two different classes.
“It’s nice to have both cars because I had three days off last year. Now I drive one car a day, so I’m always driving,” he explained.
“We started the year off pretty good with quite a few wins. Back home, we’ve been good,and hopefully we can do that down here and keep the momentum going,” Czarneski concluded.
Czarneski has earned several wins on the campaign. He has two IMCA Northern SportMod triumphs at The ‘Burg and one in his IMCA Stock Car.
Callender driver racing for Saturday date in Big Dance

Brian Ashburn is one of the 120-plus IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock drivers chasing a Saturday night date in the Big Dance at Boone Speedway.
The Callender, Iowa, driver is in his second season in the class and will look to take the experience he’s gained in 2022 to the Championship Night show.
“Our goal is to make an ‘A’ feature during the qualifying night,” he stated. “We would like to make it in the Big Dance but our real expectation is to make a couple of qualifiers and have fun.”
Ashburn has netted four top 10 finishes in 12 Boone Speedway starts this year, his best finish a runner-up showing on July 30.
“This year has been rough but we have had a couple of good finishes,” he said. “We finally won our first heat race and had some top 10’s at this place.”
South Dakota speedster making Super Nationals debut in 2022

While plenty of familiar faces will return to this year’s IMCA Speedway Motors IMCA Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s, there will be a fair share of new ones in the pits and on the Boone Speedway oval, too.
One of the new drivers at the 40th annual Super Nationals is Aaron Wiersma of Sioux Falls, S.D., in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods.
“This is my first year being here so my goal is to try and keep it one piece, put it in the trailer and make it into the show,” said Wiersma “We are excited to be here. We were a little back and forth whether we could make it or not this year, but we decided ‘what the heck, let’s go.’”
Wiersma had an incredible year at Slayton, Minn.’s Murray County Speedway. He closed the season with back-to-back main event wins on Aug. 19 and 26. He only finished outside the top five once in 14 starts.
“Overall, the season has been great,” he said. “Gas prices kept us local this year, and this GRT by BHE has been fast all summer long.”
Overton brings strong Prelude showing to Super Nationals

While the 2022 season has seen Tyson Overton in limited action, the Carlisle, Iowa, racer is optimistic that a strong showing on Sunday will serve as a prelude to a successful week at the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s.
“We typically run here quite a bit,” Overton explained. “The Wild Rose Casino Prelude on Sunday was our first race here this year and we ran third. Drawing is a big deal here at Boone and I hope we can have a nice clean heat race because sometimes it can get a little wild on the first lap.”
The National Guardsman has made five Big Dances over the years, with his best finish coming in his last waltz in 2019. That year he ended the night 14th.
On top of his third place results at the Prelude, Overton finished as runner-up on Sept. 2 at Marshalltown Speedway’s Showdown at Motown.
“We didn’t run too much this year. I can’t race weekly anyways because I’m in the National Guard,” he said, “so I don’t get a chance to do that. I bounce around whenever I can.”
