New ModelsBy: Alex Shahini Diesel is not dead for commuter vehicles according to Hyundai’s latest addition to the local market; the all-wheel drive Tucson N Line. Here is specification and pricing on the newcomer.

Hyundai has identified the SUV and Crossover segment to be where consumers are willing to spend their money with the market performance growing by 31,4% between 2021 and 2022 and comprising a whopping 50,9% share of sales for the automaker. This is followed by five-door hatchbacks at 34,8% and then MPVs at 7,8%. This is then the ultimate justification for adding to the Tucson lineup which is already comprised of several derivatives of both petrol and diesel flavour. The all-new N Line derivative will serve at the top of the pecking order for the lineup of the South Korean firm in South Africa.

On the outside, the cosmetic treatment includes a dark black chrome radiator grille and parametric hidden lights integrated within. A silver skid plate which mimics the N Line-exclusive rear bumper with diffuser is also present while the rear boasts a twin-tip exhaust. On the sides, the new addition is fitted with 19-inch alloy wheels which fill the wheel wells below body-coloured trim. Buyers have four exterior colours to choose from namely Titan Gray, Phantom Black, White Cream and Crimson Red.

On the inside, all seats, both front and rear have been replaced with N Line exclusive versions which are finished in leather and suede and can be heated or ventilated in the front row. The driver also has N Line exclusive pedals in the footwell while a 10,2-inch digital cluster sits behind the steering wheel displaying all pertinent driving information.

To its flank is an 8-inch infotainment system which is capable of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen replication. Over and above a host of safety and convenience features, the N Line also features a power tailgate, making it the sole model in the lineup to do so.

The diesel mill under the bonnet is capable of 7,4 L/100 km and able to deliver a maximum of 137 kW and 416 N.m. This power is distributed to all corners courtesy of an AWD system that can variably determine which set of wheels requires traction.
