The premium mid-size SUV segment is drawing a lot of attention these days and we saw a number of brands competing in the segment. While this segment continues to be dominated by the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos, we now have a new entrant that gives stiff competition to the rivals—the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. But, how good is the Grand Vitara when compared to the segment best sellers? Here is our detailed Hyundai Creta Vs Maruti Grand Vitara comparison where we comprehensively analyse all the parameters including price, specifications, features, and more.
Hyundai Creta Vs Maruti Grand Vitara Price And Variants
The Maruti Grand Vitara price in India starts from ₹10.70 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the Hyundai Creta is priced from ₹10.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base variant. Both SUVs are offered in six different variant options and offer a wide range of choices for buyers.

Hyundai Creta Vs Maruti Grand Vitara – Engine, Gearbox, and Performance
The Maruti Grand Vitara is offered with three different engine options which include a 1.5L K15C mild-hybrid petrol, 1.5L strong hybrid and a 1.5L Bi-Fuel CNG. While the mild-hybrid petrol is offered with manual as well automatic gearbox options, the hybrid is only offered with an e-CVT gearbox and the CNG gets a 5-speed manual only.
After the discontinuation of the turbo petrol powertrain, the Hyundai Creta is now only offered with two engine options: 1.5L MPi petrol and 1.5L U2 CRDi. Both these engines are offered with manual as well as automatic gearbox options and are known for their refinement and smoothness levels.
As far as performance is concerned, it is the Hyundai Creta that boasts stronger acceleration and picks up pace faster than the Vitara. The Grand Vitara however, with its stiffer suspension and chassis, gets better dynamics and not only remains stable at higher speeds but sticks to the ground on those hard corners. The Grand Vitara also boasts better steering feedback and is a driver’s delight, especially on the twisties. Having said this, the Creta offers a softer ride and thus scores high in overall comfort. This softer suspension setup however does take a direct toll on the high speed dynamics and stability of the SUV.

Design And Dimensions
The new Maruti Suzuki Vitara is underpinned by the Global C (Suzuki TECT Platform) and offers a slightly larger footprint than the Hyundai Creta. The car also offers sharp exterior styling and a high-ground clearance which adds to the overall rugged and SUV-ish looks and gives it a strong road presence. What we also get with the Grand Vitara are LED projector lights, machine-cut alloy wheels, a smart rear profile and many other premium styling elements that uplift the stance of the SUV.
The exterior styling of the present-gen Creta was a huge departure from the first-gen model which made its debut in the country and took some time to grow on people. With its muscular body panels and quirky styling elements, the new Creta does look different and is complemented by the large front grille, split LED headlights, and clean bumper design. The SUV also gets machine-cut alloy wheels and boasts better fit-finish levels when compared to the Grand Vitara. In all, both these SUVs offer a different exterior styling and attract most of the buyers with their strong and commanding characters.

Hyundai Creta Vs Maruti Grand Vitara Interiors And Features
The Hyundai Creta as well as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara are offered with a long list of features and tech and give stiff competition to each other and the rivals in the mid-size SUV segment. While the Creta gained a reputation as a premium SUV that comes loaded with all the bells and whistles, the Grand Vitara was late to the party and had a big responsibility on its shoulders. Despite this late entry, the Grand Vitara made its space in the already crowded segment and not only boasts a premium cabin but does offer all the features, if not more, expected at this price point.
Having said this, while both the SUVs offer a commendable package when it comes to the overall interior space and comfort, it is the Creta that feels more premium and has an upmarket vibe to it. The brand’s cost-saving tricks and techniques are quite evident inside the Grand Vitara and one will not fail but to notice a lot of common parts and trim elements being shared with the other, cheaper Maruti cars. In addition to this, the fit-finish levels too are not as good as the Koreans and finding hard plastics or rough edges is not difficult. On the features front though, there is no dearth of tech and the in-cabin ergonomics too are sorted. So while the Creta might have an edge in terms of the in-cabin feel, the Grand Vitara is not lagging behind and gives a tough time to the Creta with its sorted layout and a long features list.

Hyundai Creta Vs Maruti Grand Vitara Safety
As far as safety is concerned, both SUVs get a similar package and come with a long list of safety features and tech. While the top models of SUVs get as many as six variants, we also get many other advanced safety features like traction control, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system and more. For those wondering, while we are still awaiting GNCAP crash test reports for the new Grand Vitara, the Creta scored a three-star rating in the same tests. Warranty, Reliability And Resale
As far as warranty and reliability are concerned, both the SUVs are offered with impressive after-sales coverage but the Hyundai Creta takes the lead here with its longer warranty coverage. Both cars get multiple extended warranty packages and are backed by a well-established after-sales support network. Likewise, while both brands have a strong reputation in the market, it is the Creta that is marginally ahead in terms of resale value as it is not only more popular but also offers multiple powertrain choices for the users. The owners of both cars offer a positive user experience and long-term reliability.

Our Verdict
The Hyundai Creta is one of the best mid-size SUVs and not only looks good but also offers a premium and comfortable cabin. Unlike the Grand Vitara, the Creta is also offered with a diesel engine option and a powerful petrol engine, making it a better choice for those looking for a frugal powertrain option. The Maruti Grand Vitara, despite being a late entrant to the segment, is getting popular in the market for its superior VFM, practical cabin, and ultra-fuel-efficient hybrid petrol motor.
