Haval South Africa is today launching a hybrid version of the popular H6, with the launch currently unfolding on the automaker’s social media.
The company will slowly be releasing details about the H6 HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) via its Instagram and Twitter pages throughout the day with the full list of features and pricing expected to be revealed by day’s end.
The launch of the new SUV is the next step in Haval’s plan to have 80% of its sales consist of new-energy vehicles by 2025.
The HEV made its first South African appearance at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town a few weeks ago alongside another recently-launched derivative of the H6, the sporty GT.
What to expect
The new H6 HEV is the first-ever “self-charging Haval Hybrid” in South Africa equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and dual electric motors.
“With intelligent switching of the control system, the model can reach a balance between power performance and fuel consumption in various scenarios,” said Haval.
The drivetrain offers multiple modes including fully electric (EV), parallel-series connection, series connection, and energy recovery, based on the situation at hand.
“When driving on urban roads at a low speed, the vehicle can be driven in the EV or series mode to achieve a quick start and reduce fuel consumption,” said the manufacturer.
The HEV also boasts its own model-exclusive look to stand out from its petrol-only siblings.
Most notably, it sees a redesigned front grille and bumper with additional styling elements under the wing mirrors.
The official South African specifications and features will be revealed as the day goes by and when tomorrow comes, we will hopefully also have the price. The SUV is anticipated to sit above the Super Luxury but below the GT in the H6 line-up, giving it a ballpark pricing figure of around R600,000.
