Lovers of old Italian cars all know that seeing the bonnet open is quite normal. With new vehicles like the 500x crossover, you need not worry as these vehicles are very dependable. If your battery needs replacing it may be the only reason you need to open the bonnet and we can show how this is done.
Energetic Italian
Reputations are a funny thing and rather hard to shake, even after decades many a joke is still made about the dependability of Italian cars. What many may be unaware of is that new Italian vehicles are actually very dependable and very rarely have problems. This is mostly due to many of these automakers being part of larger automotive conglomerates that are more than happy to share their technology to make them better. Such is the case with Fiat which is part of the Stellantis group which now shares many of the platforms and tech among the different brands under their umbrella.
A Fiat 500X is now just as reliable as a Peugeot, Opel or Jeep and the procedure to effect repairs is very similar. If the vehicle’s battery needs to be changed it can be done in short time with minimal tools and this is how it’s done.
You will need:
- 10mm wrench
- 13mm socket + extension and driver
Let’s get it done
1. Open the bonnet
2. Locate the battery
3. Use the 10mm wrench to remove the negative battery terminal
4. Use the 10mm wrench to remove the positive terminal
5. Use the 13mm socket to remove the battery hold-down strap
7. Remove the old battery
8. Install new battery
9. Assemble in reverse order
