Polestar is a luxury Swedish automaker that’s an offshoot of Volvo, and the primary goal of Polestar is to produce high-quality, luxury EVs. Currently, Polestar has one model that’s in production, and another, the Polestar 3, is coming soon to the U.S. While there aren’t too many details available about the Polestar 3, there is some info about how much a fully loaded Polestar 3 will cost once it’s officially released.
A look at Polestar’s previous models
Polestar has actually been around since 1996, but for most of its history, it produced concept cars or acted as a performance-oriented brand for Volvo. In 2017, that all changed, and Polestar became its own brand with its own focus. Not long after, the Polestar 1 made its debut in 2018. The Polestar 1 was a PHEV sports car that was quite powerful.
It featured a 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged four-cylinder engine that worked with three electric motors to produce 619 horsepower. It was paired with a 34-kWh battery pack, allowing it to go 52 miles in battery-only mode. That being said, the 2022 Polestar 1 is the last model year it’ll be available, as Polestar discontinued the car.
The Polestar 2, meanwhile, made its debut with the 2021 model year as an all-electric luxury sedan. Polestar offers this EV with two powertrain options, one has a single motor, and the other has two motors. The single motor version gets 231 hp and about 270 miles of range. The dual motor option gets 408 hp, but it’ll only have 249 miles of range. The Polestar 2 currently starts at just over $48,000 before any incentives are added on.

Polestar is well-aware of how popular SUVs are right now, and that’s why the Polestar 3, an all-electric mid-size luxury crossover SUV, is on its way. According to Ars Technica, Polestar has already revealed some pricing details for the Polestar 3. The standard model will start at just under $84,000 and have two motors as default.
The performance pack will add $6,000 to the Polestar 3’s cost, which bumps its total price tag to about $90,000. According to Polestar, there are a couple of options that folks can add to their Polestar SUV. The Nappa upgrade, for example, adds $5,500 to the car’s cost, while choosing one of the optional paint colors will add $1,300. A towbar hitch will add another $1,500 to the car’s cost. In total, a fully loaded Polestar 3 will cost just over $100,000.
Everything else that’s known about the Polestar 3 so far
The Polestar 3 will come with two electric motors and all-wheel drive (AWD) as standard, but these motors can have different power outputs. The standard Polestar 3 gets about 489 hp combined, and the Performance Pack improves that output to 517 hp. This Swedish luxury electric SUV also comes with a 111-kWh battery pack.
According to Ars Technica, that should provide enough juice for the Polestar 3 to go 300 miles under the EPA’s testing procedures, but it may also hit 372 miles under the WLTP testing procedures. Polestar also gave the car some features, such as a heat pump, to help it handle cold weather better. Additionally, the Polestar 3 is reportedly capable of bidirectional charging, which means it can send electricity back to your house. The Polestar 3 is currently slated to begin production in 2023, and it’ll debut for the 2024 model year.
