Bakkie enthusiasts looking to buy the new GWM P-Series LTD will need to spend at least R2,200 per month on insurance, according to research done by TopAuto.
The limited-edition model is positioned as the flagship of the range at a starting price of R694,950 and as such, it boasts exclusive fitments and a rugged look.
The bakkie is uniquely fitted with black 18-inch alloy wheels, all-terrain tyres, black roof rails, off-road front and rear bumpers, a specially-developed snorkel, a 12V accessory socket in the engine bay, and a front-mounted winch that can pull up to 4.2 tonnes.
This is in addition to the equipment found on the P-Series it’s based on, which includes automatic LED headlights, a wireless phone charger, electronically-adjustable and heated front seats, leather upholstery, a leather multifunction steering wheel, keyless start, six speakers, dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch digital driver display, and a 9-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
On top of this, the GWM features assistance technologies in the form of adaptive cruise control, rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, lane-keep assist, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic sign recognition
Powering the bakkie is a 2.0-litre, turbo-diesel powerplant which connects to a selectable all-wheel-drive system via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
It produces 120kW and 400Nm, returns an average fuel consumption of 9.4l/100km, features driving modes for Mud, Snow, and Sand, and allows a cargo capacity of 650kg in the rear tray and a towing cap of 1,200kg.
Additionally, the double cab has off-road cruise control, hill-descent control, and Trail Turn Assist which can reduce its turning circle by three metres,
