The cops will be taking on the 'bad guys' in equal machinery this weekend.
A courageous Texas man called Randy Seals recently challenged the Houston Police Department to a race after he was nabbed partaking in a spot of illegal drag racing. Said illegal racing was inspired by the recent Texas 2K drag racing event at Houston Raceway. As is usually the case, the event wasn't enough for some, and throughout the weekend, many took to the streets.
Knowing this would inevitably happen, the police employed undercover bystanders and a drone to collect evidence of people breaking the law. The police acted swiftly, arrested some folks, and confiscated a few cars. Following the arrests, the Houston PD also started naming and shaming street racers, one of whom was Mr. Seals, and that's where the story gets fascinating.

Instead of sulking, Seals commented on the department's Facebook post and challenged them to a 30-lap dirt race in decommissioned Ford Crown Victorias this weekend. It would have been cool if Texas Police used the 1,000-horsepower Dodge Challenger awarded to them by a judge following the arrest of a particularly dodgy miscreant.
The Houston Police Department accepted the challenge, so the shootout (not that kind) is confirmed. In a later post, Seals confirmed that the Houston Police Officers Union President, Doug Griffith, gave permission. Griffith is sending two of his best drivers. “I will say that they will be outnumbered, but if there is anyone that knows how to slide a Crown Vic around the corners, it's them,” Seals wrote in a Facebook post.

The cops are adequately prepared for the challenge. Velocity Parts And Performance helped the police prep two Crown Vics for the race, and the resulting car was filmed by Midnight Performance on Instagram. The full livery included below shows artery-inspired racing stripes, the official badge of the Houston PD, a sticker that says “stop resisting,” and the obligatory donut. We wouldn't bet against the police, considering how well-versed they are in the infamous pit maneuver.
This inspiring story has another happy ending. Seals also revealed that he's in discussions with the police about hosting a legal street race in the area, keeping dangerous and frankly stupid activities off the streets.
Tensions between the police and drivers have been tense recently, with both sides being guilty. Last year a California police officer banned a stock car from the road for being too noisy, and Florida's undercover muscle car scheme has drawn lots of criticism.
