Honda Elevate is slated to be the newest entry into the mid-size SUV segment of our market and the Maruti Grand Vitara is awaiting to challenge it.

In this Honda Elevate vs Maruti Grand Vitara comparison, we shall take a look at the design, specs and features of both these SUVs to determine which one will make sense for whom. Elevate will be Honda’s attempt to grab some market share for itself in one of the fastest-expanding mid-size SUV segments in India. It is admittedly a bit late to the party but it has the advantage of learning from others. On the other hand, Maruti was also late to this segment and its Grand Vitara has ensured that it will compete quite vehemently in this segment. Let us compare the two in-depth here.

Honda Elevate vs Maruti Grand Vitara – Specs Comparison

The Honda Elevate will borrow its powertrains from the City which has two petrol engine options – a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 121 hp and 145 Nm and a 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle strong hybrid petrol engine making 109 hp and 253 Nm of peak power and torque. The former comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic while the latter is paired with a sole e:CVT automatic transmission. The strong hybrid powertrain will be the preferred choice for people with high budgets and high fuel efficiency needs. It will be interesting to see if there is an additional 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine for lower trims.

On the other hand, Maruti Grand Vitara also has the option of two petrol engines – a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre petrol hybrid engine with an electric motor. The former is good for 103 hp and 136 Nm while the latter makes a decent 92 hp and 122 Nm of peak power and torque. There are options of a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic with the regular petrol mill while the hybrid version comes with a sole e:CVT automatic transmission optimized for fuel economy.

Design Comparison

Honda has not launched the Elevate just yet but has teased the SUV via short teasers. From those, we can confirm that the SUV will bear a standard-sized electric sunroof, roof rails, shark fin antenna and wrap-around taillamps. Apart from that, we could make some logical assumptions regarding the design from the latest Honda City and some digital illustrations. Therefore, it could boast an understated but sophisticated appearance with a bold front end, stylish alloy wheels and an attractive tail section. It will, most likely, not have a polarising exterior.

Maruti Grand Vitara features the latest design language from the Japanese carmaker with a tri-unit LED DRLs on the bonnet and the main LED headlamp cluster on the edges of the bumper, there is a massive grille in the centre with a chrome-finished Suzuki logo, a sturdy skid plate lending an imposing road presence. The side profile is dominated by elegant alloy wheels and roof rails in addition to body claddings while the rear section has the latest connected LED taillamps with a glass panel in between. All in all, it clearly looks like the newer model in the Maruti Suzuki India lineup.

Interior and Features

On the inside, the Honda Elevate will offer a luxurious feel. In fact, it will borrow most of the features from the City. This might include things like a large Digital Infotainment System, Digital Instrument Cluster, Amazon and Alexa Connectivity, Height Adjustable Driver’s Seat, 8-Speaker Premium Audio System, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Wireless Charging, 360-degree Camera, G-Meter, All Four One-Touch Power Windows, Voice Commands, Honda SENSING ADAS Functions like Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), Adaptive Cruiser Control, Lane Keeping Assist System, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Information System, Cross Traffic Monitor, Auto High-Beam Headlights and more.

Being the flagship product of Maruti Suzuki in India, it is bound to be feature-laden. There are modern features including a large Touchscreen Infotainment System, a Digital Instrument Cluster, Leather-Wrapped Steering-Mounted Controls, Automatic Climate Control, Head-Up Display, a 360-degree Camera, 6 Airbags, Leatherette Upholstery, Connected Car Tech and more. While the official launch of the Honda Elevate will reveal more details about the features and the pricing, we are certain that there will be a large number of people who will get confused as to which one to pick.
