The introduction of the Honda City Hatchback implies that Honda follows the footsteps of its rival Toyota, who brought out a hatchback version of the Toyota Vios, with Toyota Yaris.

Exterior Dimension

According to the dimensions, the Honda City Hatchback is relatively smaller which is expected as it is similar to other hatchbacks – it can pack as much as humanly possible into the smallest space available. 

However, the sedan might be the perfect car for families due to the spacious build as it can comfortably fit up to 5 adults comfortably. 

Meanwhile, the hatchback is better suited for working adults and first-time car owners, who need a simple, no-hassle car that is small enough to navigate through Malaysian roads. Plus, it is much easier to drive and park a small hatchback especially in tight corners and small spaces. 

Exterior Features

The front profile of both cars look similar as they share the same headlamp, grille, bumper, and bonnet design. The same characteristics continue down the sides as well, where a prominent line goes above both the car’s door handles, connecting both the front and backlighting units.

On the hatchback, the roofline is way longer to meet the roof spoiler that is placed just above the boot lid with a steep rear window. It also has its own tail light and rear bumper design.

Interior Features

Just like the exterior, the interior features of the Honda City Hatchback are pretty similar to its Sedan sibling. The dashboard is fitted with an eight-inch touchscreen ‘Advanced Touch’ head unit and large air vents, while on the center stack, there are controls for the air-conditioning system, a power outlet, USB ports, and a mini storage unit. The center console holds two cup holders, a gear stick, a handbrake, and more storage areas including one under the armrest.

One major difference between these cars is that the hatchback comes with Ultra Seats (allowing four-seat arrangements – utility, long, tall, and refresh mode) and offers more legroom than the former.

Engine and Performance

The Honda City Sedan is powered by a 1.5 liter DOHC i-VTEC naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine, which results in a maximum power of 121 PS (119 hp) at 6,600 rpm. It also has a peak of 145 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm. For power in the front wheels, the turbocharged mill is paired with a CVT automatic transmission with ECON mode.

The hatchback, on the other hand, is powered by a 1.0 liter DOHC VTEC turbo three-cylinder engine that delivers 122 PS at 5,500 rpm and 173 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm. The mill that drives power to the front wheel is paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
