Iconic Aussie coupe to be restored by Holden as part of Project Monaro aftersales promotion
Just when you thought the focus on Holden was beginning to shift away from its glory days and towards its future, the lion brand has put the spotlight firmly on one of the most iconic models of its past.
The 2004 ‘V2’ Holden Monaro – the last Monaro ever produced by Holden – is the centrepiece of a new aftersales promotion announced by Holden today, called Project Monaro.
Paying homage to one of its modern classics, Holden will restore, improve and give away a 2004 VZ Monaro CV8, employing the skills of some of its V2 Monaro designers at Port Melbourne and the Red Bull Holden Racing Team to make it look and perform better than the original.
Describing it as a money-can’t-buy kind of car, Holden says the Monaro CV8 will be as close to a brand-new vehicle as possible, but reimagined, refined and improved from the ground up using Holden Genuine, ACDelco and Chevrolet Performance Parts.
Holden says it will demonstrate its ongoing commitment to Australia and New Zealand by drawing on the wealth of talent within Holden and its dealer network, and will also leverage Aussie motorsport icon Craig Lowndes to develop and promote Project Monaro.
“I am truly proud to continue my long-term association with the Holden brand,” said Lowndes. “Like many Australians, I grew up with the Monaro. It’s such a thrill to be working on such a special project with the team at Holden.”
Lowndes will present a series of behind¬-the-scenes YouTube videos detailing the build of the vehicle, “from the concept development, through body, interior and mechanical restoration, culminating in the final shakedown of Project Monaro at Holden’s the top-secret Long Long Proving Ground with Lowndesy himself behind the wheel”.
Also up for grabs as part of the Project Monaro promotion is ‘Lowndesy’s Ultimate Holden Garage’, a runner-up prize including everything required to deck out a dream garage, from tools and workshop equipment to a collection of Lowndes-themed memorabilia.
Other prizes in the competition, which is open to both trade and retail customers in Australia and New Zealand, will include monthly Red Bull Holden Racing Team merchandise vouchers.
Members of the automotive trade can enter via their local Holden Trade Club website via www.holdentradeclub.com.au or www.holdentradeclub.co.nz. After they enrol in the project Monaro competition, every $100 (ex-GST) they spend on Holden Trade Club parts between July 1 and March 31, 2020 will automatically get them an entry into the competition.
For everyone else, you’ll need to spend $100 (+GST) or more on Holden Genuine or ACDelco parts at a Holden Dealer, spend $100 (+GST) at a Holden dealer service department, or spend $100 (+GST) on an ACDelco battery from a Holden dealer or authorised ACDelco battery reseller, then submit your receipt to ACDelco.com.au/offers to ensure you’re in the running.
