If the TRX-based 6×6 pickup truck the gearheads at Hennessey Performance (HPE) teased last year was simply too much for your tastes – or you just missed the boat on the grand total of three that were made available – the crew in Texas have a solution. They’ve started production on another variation of this theme, this time hopping up the famous 6.2L Hellcat engine instead of stuffing a psychotic 7.0L Hellephant crate engine under the hood.
Don’t worry, power is still in the four-figure range — how does a grand total of 1,012 horses sound?
To be frank, at wide-open throttle it probably sounds like God ripping a set of bedsheets in half. HPE builds on the Hellcat foundation by adding a high-flow 2.65L supercharger, special fuel injectors which probably spew gasoline like a fire hose, and a high-flow induction system that’s surely capable of inhaling a flock of sheep.
Unspecified “performance-boosting calibration” was carried out on the electrical gubbins, likely prepping them for a prime mix of fuel and air. Hennessey’s engineers boosted performance of the stock Dodge Ram TRX engine by more than 300 ponies, to 1,012 hp, while also enhancing torque to 969 lb-ft, which is a 319 lb-ft above stock measures.
“Everything we do at Hennessey Performance is turned up to 11, but the Mammoth 1000 6×6 is definitely turned up to 12,” said John Hennessey, company founder and CEO. “Everything on the Mammoth 6×6 is bigger, badder, and more imposing – plus, it’s still super-fast, while being a total powerhouse off-road. It’s the undisputed king of the road.” And, yes — it is listed as a six-wheel-drive machine.
Priced from US$449,950 – inclusive of the base Ram TRX – the four-door Mammoth 6×6 features a mountain of off-road kit including locking rear axles, Bilstein suspension, and 20-inch wheels clad in 37-inch off-road tires. The truck builds on a base Ram TRX by adding a third axle; extending the truck’s length by more than four feet; and creating a cavernous load-space. Total length is 283 inches (719 cm), standing almost seven feet high and 88 inches wide. In other words, this probably won’t fit in your condo’s underground parking garage.
Hennessey says the truck can be ordered right now through authorized Ram retailers, or directly through its shop in Texas. Best of all, it’s quadrupling its production run versus its predecessor! It plans to make a total 12 examples of the Mammoth 1000. You know you want one.
