Some might argue that EV technology is still in its infancy, there is indeed still so much potential. It’s an age of pioneering for EV tech, and the possibilities are somewhat endless. Hennessey — known for pushing the envelope when it comes to automotive performance— has begun drip feeding information about Project Deep Space, a six-wheeled grand touring EV with the promise of pushing out 1 491 kW.

The idea that a company that specializes in producing pumped-up iterations of bakkies, sports cars, and even creating entirely new nameplates all centred around the pursuit of sheer performance would take the plunge and plan on creating a new and fairly outlandish EV. Project Deep Space began as the typical napkin sketch, but took a back seat as the firm focused its efforts on the development and production of the Venom F5.

“I’ve been building some of the world’s fastest accelerating vehicles for decades, yet they have always been performance-limited by mechanical grip. Six-wheeled electric propulsion is the solution.” — John Hennessey.

Six wheels, each powered by an individual motor supposedly produce roughly 300 kW to their respective wheel making the theoretical total output figure within the 1400+ range. Speaking of range, Project Deep Space is said to be offering a range of nearly 1 000 km on a single charge. The firm also plans to ensure that this GT is the fastest 0 to 320 km/h four-seater. Project Deep Space appears to straddle the line between performance and luxury.

Project Deep Space is directed towards being a luxury passenger transporter with an emphasis on the word “luxury”. The interior is being built to replicate the luxuriousness of a private jet. Instead of the traditional 2 seats in the front and 2 seats in the rear, Hennessey plan on implementing a diamond style (driver seat with passenger seats on either side curtailed by a seat at the rear) seating configuration with the seat at the rear designated for the VVIP (very very important person). The cabin will be ladened with tech.

Hennessey says that the interior is already 90% complete and the one-to-one prototype will be unveiled in the next 2 years. Project Deep space is said to be six meters in length making it longer than the Audi e-tron gt. Production is scheduled to begin in 2026 with only 105 examples planned for production.
