Efficient new petrol-electric powertrain to become available for Jolion in September 2022, but at a cost
A hybrid option will be added to the Haval Jolion range in Australia next month, promising a near-40 percent cut in fuel consumption when compared to the SUV’s existing turbo-petrol engine.
When it arrives locally in September 2022, the Jolion Hybrid will be primed to compete with the forthcoming Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid, as well as existing fuel-sippers in the small SUV segment including the Honda HR-V hybrid and Skoda Kamiq.
A discreet ‘HEV’ badge will mark out the Jolion Hybrid from its petrol-only siblings
Based on the high-specification Jolion Ultra ($33,990 driveaway), the new Jolion Hybrid grade will cost $40,990 driveaway – a $7000 premium partially offset by a significant jump in performance for the petrol-electric grade.
It’s a new high watermark for Jolion pricing in Australia, with the small SUV last experiencing a $1000 price increase in early 2022.
As well as consuming substantially less fuel than the Jolion’s existing 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine, the new petrol-electric hybrid option will make 26 percent more power and 70 percent more torque than the petrol alone.

Haval says that the Jolion Hybrid will have fuel consumption of 5.0L/100km on the combined cycle. That’s well down on the turbo petrol’s 8.1L/100km, but not quite as frugal as its new Toyota rival – with the Corolla Cross hybrid set to sit 4.4L/100km.
The hybrid integrates a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor sandwiched within the structure of its automatic gearbox, which Haval calls a ’dedicated hybrid transmission’. Chasing Cars first reported in late 2021 that the Jolion Hybrid was under consideration for Australia.
It’s a system capable of producing 139kW of power and 375Nm of torque, which compares favourably with the non-hybrid turbo petrol that makes 110kW/220Nm. Both powertrains are front-wheel drive.
The 1.5-litre turbo (non-hybrid) will continue to do service in the Jolion Premium ($28,490 driveaway), Jolion Lux ($30,990 driveaway), Jolion Ultra ($33,990 driveaway), and Jolion Vanta special edition ($34,485 driveaway).
Within Haval’s Australian range, the Jolion Hybrid will become the second petrol-electric option after the recent launch of the H6 Hybrid midsize SUV (read our review here).
Pitched as the most premium option within the Jolion range, the Hybrid variant will score a significant equipment list that takes in 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, head-up display, heated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

Chasing Cars understands that the Jolion Hybrid will weigh around 1500kg – or about 100-150kg more than its petrol siblings – but that it will equal the turbo-petrol powertrain in being rated to tow 1500kg.
