Strong sales for Haval over the past few years mean that the automaker is in the position to offer a sporty derivative of one of its best-selling models. The H6 GT has touched down in South Africa and should offer a dynamic driving experience without compromising its versatility.

The Haval H6 is a strong value proposition for buyers in the compact crossover SUV segment; one that has been booming in our local market for some time now. Haval has now introduced the sporty derivative of the well-specified model and it’s not just a cosmetic overhaul without the grunt to match.
“Adding the GT to our H6 line-up makes the perfect flagship model to what has become a very popular model exceeding our expectations, from both a sales point of view but also the type of customer we are seeing join our Haval stable. We are confident the GT will deliver on the promise for the more astute motorist, seeking something more dynamic in its design.”; Conrad Groenewald concludes.

Haval has given the 2,0-litre turbocharged motor that normally sits within the H6 a few extra kW for the H6 GT. The Sleek coupe-Esque Chinese creation now boasts 155 kW and 325 N.m – five more of each than the standard derivative. Power is delivered through a 7-speed DCT and the model comes standard with a torque-on-demand 4WD system.
The most noticeable change to the model over its standard SUV counterpart is the silhouette of its body which has a sweeping rear roofline, with the C-pillar merging into the rear fascia. Gloss black galore is the modus operandi for the exterior with roof rails and mirror caps fitted while faux carbon fibre inserts can be found breaking the bold paintwork fore and aft.
The H6 GT rides on 235/55 R19 gloss black alloy rims with sufficient tyre wall to ensure it can mount the occasional kerb and put its SUV fundamentals to use. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the model has been fitted with a ‘Race Mode’ which provides a more prominent exhaust tone with a more aggressive throttle and transmission response.

Above the driver is a panoramic sunroof while the interior has been equally as refreshed as the exterior. Green stitching and trim subtly allude to the SUVs sportier nature with the heated Alcantara seats further reinforcing this concept. In the centre console is a 12,3-inch display that is home to a raft of features which include the 360-degree view camera, phone connectivity in the form of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or Bluetooth pairing while a wireless charging port is concealed beneath.
In front of the driver is a 10,25-inch digital instrument cluster which displays safety features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Intelligent cruise, Intelligent cornering, traffic jam assist, Pre-collision warning with automatic emergency braking (AEB Pedestrian and Cyclist), Lane Departure Alert (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and Blind spot detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert through the controls.
The GT will be on sale from this month at R629 950, while the H6 line-up starts at R479 950. Pricing includes a 5year/ 100 000km warranty and 5 year/60 000km service plan.
