We’ve got our first glimpse at Aston’s new, surprisingly sedate-looking V12 Vantage
Registrations of interest for the 2022 Aston Martin V12 Vantage are now being taken and, to mark the occasion, the British marque has released a teaser image of the swansong Vantage alongside its two predecessors.
While official reveal and subsequent launch dates are yet to be announced, the darkened teaser image reveals most of the V12 coupe’s key design details, chief among which is a slatted gaping grille.
Otherwise consistent with the rest of the Vantage range in its shape and proportions, the V12’s grille differs from the V8’s by featuring chrome slats rather than the black ones seen on lesser models.
Even after brightening the shadows up with a cheeky bit of photo-shopping, there is very little else to distinguish the V12 Vantage from the V8. Previous versions have added a series of bonnet vents to up the sense of aggression.
Given the teaser image has been taken from the front, it’s impossible to see if the V12 will be fitted with a more pronounced lip spoiler or more aggressive side skirts, but we can safely assume the alloy wheel design will at least be different.
While it’s not as aggressive looking as the DBS, the new V12 Vantage is expected to inherit the flagship’s twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 and adopt a similar tune to the bespoke and ultra-rare V12 Speedster.
In that application, the force-fed 12 churned out 515kW/753Nm, which is still 16kW/147Nm less than the DBS. But the V12 Vantage will have smaller dimensions and, in theory at least, less weight to contend with than Aston’s Ferrari-baiting halo car.
For reference, the open-top and windscreen-less V12 Speedster stopped the clock over the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.5 seconds and topped out at around 300km/h.
Given the V8 Vantage hits 100km/h in 3.9sec and can reach 314km/h, we expect the V12 version to achieve a similar 0-100 time as the speedster and be able to push on towards a 322km/h (200mp/h) v-max. The DBS will do 340km/h and hit 100km/h in 3.4sec.
“Crafted with unapologetic power and luxury … the new V12 Vantage carries the unmistakable Aston Martin roar,” said Aston Martin in a statement.
“It celebrates its legacy as the last member to join the bloodline through an exquisite display of power and sound.”
As previously reported by carsales, the next-generation Aston Martin Vantage as well as the bigger DB11 have already been confirmed to be going fully-electric with the transition expected to be made around 2025 in preparation for tighter new Euro7 emissions regulations.
