Get your mad mechanic hat on with the game's new engine swap function.
Sony and Polyphony Digital have dropped a new update for the famed Gran Turismo 7 racing game available for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. This went live on May 24, adding three new cars and updating the popular video title's in-game functions.
Dubbed patch 1.34, the latest update for the game introduces the 1990 Nissan GT-R R-32 Nismo, the Greening Auto Company Maverick, and the 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT Veloce. The update likewise expands the game's tuning shop with the new “Ultimate” category of parts. Plus, the patch adds the new ability to perform engine swaps on certain cars.
The Ford Maverick-based hot rod (the 1970s compact car, not the Ford Maverick pickup truck) built by the Greening Auto Company is the most powerful among the three. It can make up to 1,183 horsepower thanks to its 7.0-liter V8 Windsor small block. Back at the 2018 SEMA show, this very same hot rod won “Best of Show” and was selected as one of the SEMA GT Awards cars.
Spicing things up a bit is the Nissan GT-R R-32 Nismo, a homologation car built to meet Group A standards. At maximum, it can generate 290 hp and it uses the well-known ATTESSA all-wheel-drive system. Only 500 of these Japanese rockets were built but it still managed to gain fame in Group A races, endurance races, and touring car races around the world.
The third is the Giulia Sprint GT – the first-ever Giulia coupe and the current Alfa Romeo Giulia's forefather. While its tiny 103-hp engine makes it the least powerful in the new car trio, it more than makes up for it with its feather-light 2,094-lbs body weight.

The new patch allows players to perform engine swaps accessible via the game’s “Car Maintenance & Service” menu at GT Auto. However, this in-game function, like in real life, does come with some caveats, such as the prerequisite to reach Collector Level 50, which requires the player to have bought a certain number of cars. There's also the fact that specific cars are only compatible with a limited number of engines.
The new “Ultimate” tab under the game's Tuning Shop is unlocked at Collector Level 50. It adds a smorgasbord of rare parts and several new in-depth tuning options, including toe angle adjustment, damping ratios, and camber adjustment.
As with other Gran Turismo 7 updates, the 1.34 patch is free, so fire up your consoles and give the new cars a spin.
