GMC has teamed up with WTP Pictures and Hiatus for a new documentary that showcases the development of the 2022 Hummer EV.
Dubbed “Revolution: GMC Hummer EV,” the hour long documentary follows a handful of employees that “helped launch the company’s first all-electric pickup in record time – just over two years.”
The film’s crew was given “unfettered access” from inception to production, so viewers will see everything from cold weather testing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to off-road tests in Moab, Utah. The documentary will also showcase the development of the Ultium platform as well as the transformation of Factory Zero. Viewers will also be taken to the GM Design building at the Warren Tech Center as well as the secretive Milford Proving Ground and Desert Proving Ground in Yuma, Arizona.
According to executive chief engineer, Josh Tavel, “Our goal was to upend what an electric vehicle is capable of and push the boundaries from 100 years of vehicle development experience. This documentary captures the soul of a team capable of incredible innovation and resilience.”
His sentiments were echoed by director Sean King O’Grady, who said “The story we discovered while filming was far more fascinating than anything we could have hoped for.” He added, “This was an incredible opportunity to go deep behind the scenes of the development process to discover what it takes to bring a vehicle to life, and to capture this moment in automotive history as it happened.”
The documentary will air on the History Channel on March 27th at 11 a.m. ET, but will also be available for streaming that same day on Hulu and History.com. It will then be uploaded to GMC’s YouTube channel on April 3rd.
As for the GMC Hummer EV, it’s one of the most insane vehicles ever built as it features a removable roof as well as a tri-motor powertrain that develops an estimated combined output of 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS). If that wasn’t ridiculous enough, the model features a CrabWalk function, nearly 13 inches (330 mm) of suspension travel, and an Extract Mode that provides 15.9 inches (404 mm) of ground clearance as well as approach, departure and breakover angles of 49.7°, 38.4° and 32.2°.
