General Motors is offering U.S. customers a US$5,500 discount on its new 2023 Cadillac Lyriq all-electric SUV if they sign a non-disclosure agreement and allow GM to track their driving experience, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press.
Details from those familiar with the plan say the automaker will use the information to “elevate the experience” for drivers of the 2023 all-electric SUV.
“As we transform our business, the launch of our first all-electric vehicle, Lyriq, provides Cadillac some unique learning opportunities,” Cadillac spokesman Michael Albano told the Free Press in an article. “Therefore, we have engaged a small group of early customers who agree to share their vehicle information and customer behaviours.”
First reported by Carsdirect.com on June 30, Cadillac said the program was available nationally in the U.S. and that GM offered select customers a $5,500 cash allowance on the 2023 Lyriq when buying or leasing from June 28 through August 31.
Albano said that just 20 drivers were selected for the program’s initial launch, in U.S. cities such as New York, Detroit, and Los Angeles, according to the Detroit Free Press.
With pressure mounting to nail the launch of the Cadillac Lyriq across North American markets, Cadillac hopes that gaining access to a driver’s road patterns, behaviours, and other information will help the automaker gather data to improve the car ahead of its full launch this fall.

Earlier this year, GM told suppliers to prepare to produce 25,000 Lyriqs this year after selling them out online in 20 minutes. It also plans to launch several EV incentives for drivers.
Pricing opens at $69,898 (plus destination) for the rear-wheel-drive Lyriq, which pairs a 100-kWh battery pack to a motor that makes 340 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. The RWD model is expected to arrive this fall. GM has estimated it will manage 502 km of range on a full charge.
GM will announce the AWD model’s range and pricing closer to its availability in early 2023.
