NEW YORK, NY: Genesis came to the New York International Auto Show with a new take on a small city runabout.
The Mint Concept is all electric with a high-density electric motor/battery powertrain with a range estimated at 200 miles (322 km) on a full charge with 350 kW fast charging by a rear-mounted centre port.
The lower portion of the body is designed to increase airflow underneath to help cool the battery pack.
What makes the Mint Concept engaging is how it blends utility and technology in a small, two passenger package that is agile and fun to drive.
Previewed prior to the opening of the auto show, the concept was debuted in Hunter Green and noticeable for its short overhangs. Instead of a rear hatch or trunk, the Mint Concept has a large parcel shelf behind the bench front seat with aft access by scissor-style panels that swing up to make loading easier.
Inside, the centre console and its function controller knob can be folded creating what Genesis describes as turning “the front bench into a settee.”
At the same time, getting in and out is facilitated by the automatic swivelling of the instrument panel and bench seat.
The oblong steering wheel is surrounded by six copper Graphic User Interface (GUI) information screens that call attention to critical vehicle functions individually.
A seventh screen mounted flush in the steering wheel displays primary vehicle information while allowing the driver to maintain focus on the road ahead.
