Genesis says its Essentia Concept shown at the New York International Auto Show is the most connected car in the world.
NEW YORK, NY: Genesis brought one of the few concept cars seen at this year’s New York International Auto Show.
The Essentia Concept is the first all-electric car in the brand’s brief history and Genesis says it points at the direction it is heading with future products.
It places the battery pack inside the I-shaped centre tunnel instead of under the floor or trunk like most of its competitors.
Genesis says it expects the Essentia to accelerate from 0-100 km in just 3.0 seconds putting it on par with supercars.
Because of battery positioning, Genesis designers were able to create a very low-slung GT which at New York was painted in Stardust Grey Metallic with a pronounced grille that is an extension of the Genesis crest.
An interesting design detail is a transparent hood through which the carbon-fibre body can be seen.
It wouldn’t be a concept without butterfly doors and the Essentia has them that are large enough to allow access to the back two seats as well as the front at the same time.
The interior starts with the front seats in a cognac coloured leather with herringbone quilting and the liberal use of carbon-fibre layering for the trim while the rear seats are done in a contrasting Oxford Blue leather.
The driver has an eight-inch instrument display with piano black surrounds.
Genesis said the Essentia is designed to be the most connecting car in the world with advanced vehicle-to-infrastructure and vehicle-to-vehicle technology.
Essentia is able to let the driver know about changing road conditions in real time to help avoid traffic jams, road closures and accidents. Using machine learning intelligence, it can suggest alternate routes.
Essentia will be able to connect to smart homes and devices to accept packages, set the air conditioning or heat and turn lights off and on.
Banking payments and transfers will be able to be done using the centre screen.
