Rising above its history as a cheap car manufacturer, Hyundai developed the Genesis luxury brand less than 20 years ago, moving into the premium sector. In a new evolution, Genesis has begun developing luxury electric vehicles. Its first EV, the 2023 Genesis GV60, has been for sale in just four states in the United States. Four additional states will now join that exclusive group.

The 2023 Genesis GV60 has been available in which states?

Genesis is the luxury brand from Hyundai, and it has set goals of having only electric models after 2025 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2035, reports Electrek. By 2030, Hyundai plans to have 1.87 million EV sales, comprising 7% of the global electric vehicle market.

The 2023 Genesis GV60, an electric SUV, is the first EV model from the brand. Until now, the GV60 has been available in only California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. Genesis just began delivering orders of the GV60 to U.S. buyers in these states in May 2022.

Which additional 4 states now sell the GV60?

Buyers in states outside of the original four have received some good news. According to Electrek, Genesis recently announced that the Genesis GV60 will be available in four additional states beginning in September 2022. Certain dealerships will start selling the GV60 in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Washington.

An overview of the 2023 Genesis GV60

Car and Driver says the Genesis GV60 has an “athletic driving demeanor” and a “punchy electric powertrain.” It calls the SUV “satisfying and whimsical.” Hyundai worked with Canoo, an EV startup in California, to develop the E-GMP platform. It’s being used for the Genesis GV60 and other related EVs, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. Three powertrain options are expected eventually, but currently, the GV60 comes with dual motors and all-wheel drive.

The Advanced trim generates a combined 314 horsepower, and the Performance trim gets 429 hp and can increase to 483 hp when the Boost driving mode is in use. The Genesis GV60 has a long-range capability of 235 or 248 miles, depending on which of the two trims is selected. Both trims have a 77.4-kWh battery pack, but the Advanced trim has a 248-mile range while the Performance trim has a 235-mile range. A possible future rear-wheel-drive option would have a longer range. The GV60 can be charged from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes using a DC fast charging station.

The GV60 includes the premium interior to be expected in a Genesis vehicle, with one large display screen for both the gauge cluster and infotainment system. A 12.3-inch touchscreen shares space with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The SUV includes several unique features, including fake engine sounds that drivers can select and a crystal sphere shift knob that reveals itself when the SUV turns on. Drivers can unlock and start the GV60 using its facial recognition system. The GV60 also features a fingerprint reader, and a Bang & Olufsen audio system comes standard.

The GV60 also comes standard with driver-assistance safety features, including automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with lane centering, and lane-keeping assist with lane-departure warning. However, the GV60 doesn’t have wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto (although it does have regular Apple CarPlay and Android Auto).

As an additional bonus, U.S. GV60 buyers will be eligible for three years’ worth of 30-minute free charging sessions. The deal is offered through a partnership between Genesis and Electrify America. Owners can access the offer through the Electrify America app, which makes it easy to find charging locations, schedule a charging time, and track charging sessions.

The Genesis GV60 has a starting price of $58,890. Buyers looking for similar performance for a lower cost may want to consider EVs from Hyundai and Kia. However, buyers now in eight states have an opportunity to check out this unique electric crossover SUV.
