Plenty of Chinese car companies have bitten into the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV’s market pie, and now Geely is also joining in too. The company’s EV-focused brand, Geometry, is set to launch the Geometry M2, a micro-electric vehicle (EV) that will join the small EV race in China.
As with most of its competitors, the Geometry M2 is a two-door hatchback that seats four. Geometry also went for the boxy design similar to the Mini EV unlike another tiny EV competitor the Chery QQ Ice Cream.
The two round headlamps are surrounded by a coloured border which owners can pick the colour of choice. Another feature that owners can pick their preference is the different wheel designs for the 13-inch wheels.
What is strange is the Geely logo emblazoned across the back of the EV. Although Geometry is a sub-brand under Geely, the cars released under the brand have moved away from obvious Geely branding with only a hint of Geely’s ownership on the bottom left of the rear end.
Perhaps Geely intends to market the EV in international markets under the Geely brand in the future.
One unique selling point (USP) of the M2 that the rest of the competition could not compare is the massive panoramic sunroof that spans the entire roof of the EV.
Measuring 3,065 x 1,522 x 1,600 mm in length, width, and height with a wheelbase of 2,015 mm, the M2 is larger than the standard Wuling Mini EV that measures only 2,917 x 1,493 x 1,621 mm.
Preliminary information revealed that the M2 will come with two power options. The first will be a 20 kW motor that produces 27 PS and the larger motor will be a 30 kW unit that produces 41 PS. The M2 will have a top speed of 100 km/h, similar to its rival, the Mini EV.
The electric motor will be located at the front. At the time of writing, Geometry has yet to reveal the battery capacity for the M2.
The Geometry M2 is expected to make its public debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show this November with sales to start by Q4 of 2022.
