Update: ‘Model year updates’ and ‘Jaguar I-Pace sales & future’ sections updated.
Amidst the product cancellations at Jaguar Land Rover since the implementation of the Reimagine strategy in early 2021, at least the Jaguar I-Pace’s future is secure. A report from Autocar in June 2021 had said that the I-Pace will “survive Jaguar’s reinvention,” suggesting that a full model change is certain and that a second-gen I-Pace is on the horizon.
So far, the Jaguar I-Pace has received minor updates since the introduction in March 2018. A facelifted I-Pace is unlikely to arrive before 2023, while the second-generation i-Pace’s release would be further afield, in the middle of the decade.
Model year updates
On June 9, 2021, the I-Pace received a new, 11 kW on-board charger, the Pivi Pro infotainment system, 360-degree camera, ClearSight digital IRVM, and improved cabin air ionization with PM2.5 filtration for the 2022 model year in the U.S. On August 9, 2022, the 2023 Jaguar I-Pace was announced which brings Amazon Alexa connectivity, a standard wireless smartphone charger, and performance seats (in Ebony, Light Oyster, and Mars Red color options) to the electric car.

In some markets, the Jaguar I-Pace is available in a cheaper EV320 variant that returns the same range but is slower due to lower outputs. The EV320’s motor generates 236 kW (316 hp) and 500 Nm (369 lb.-ft.) of torque. It takes 6.4 seconds to accelerate from 0-62 mph and it can achieve a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph).
Jaguar I-Pace sales & future
The Jaguar I-Pace is not very popular in the market compared to the Tesla Model Y which is in a position to become the world’s best-selling car by 2025. Between January and June 2022, JLR sold just 4,189 units of the I-Pace. During the same period, Tesla sold 238,533 units of the Model 3 and Model Y combined, and it is safe to assume that a sizable portion of that figure was contributed by the SUV.
With the Reimagine strategy in place, Jaguar will undergo “a renaissance” by the middle of the decade to become an all-electric luxury brand, JLR said in an announcement on February 15, 2021. Future Jaguars will have more dramatic designs with innovative silhouettes. The company wants a clear distinction between the Jaguar and Land Rover brands. From here on, it may make only low-slung Jaguars – no high-riding SUVs. All future Jaguar models will sit on a bespoke EV platform, which is internally known as the ‘Panthera.’ The company has confirmed Solihull, West Midlands (UK) as the home of the future platform.
