Borkert initially confirmed that an electric Urus was on the cards and further stated “Sooner or later the Urus will be going electric… to be honest, the regulations in the world and also the social acceptance – the trend is going in this way for sure.” The Urus has become a cash-cow for the Raging Bull and leveraging modern technology aligned with current regulations would ensure that the nameplate lives on into the future.
Fortunately, Borkert mentioned: “I’m not saying right now that the Urus successor is going electric, but for these kinds of cars electrification makes more sense,” which means it will only be getting this treatment for its next generation which is only expected to arrive after 2028.
Fortunately for the petrol loving enthusiasts, Borkert also confirmed that the company will offer combustion power for as long as legally possible in terms of new car regulations. “People at the moment are still trained that V10 is emotional, but I don’t know if in forty years the young kids will still be happy with this. I’m also someone who is in love with the combustion engine, but I’m not fearing the move to electric.” Later this year, Lamborghini will be revealing a hardcore version of the Urus SUV which will be purely petrol powered and this might be one last hoorah to the ICE for the brand.
