Jaguar TCS cars in FE testing
Jaguar pair Mitch Evans and Sam Bird have given their overview of the new Gen3 car after testing it in Valencia last week.
Pre-season winter testing took place in Spain over a four-day period, with each of the teams and drivers starting to get to grips with the new Gen3 car, which is hugely different to what they are all used to.
Indeed, the last few days will have been hugely important for the drivers and teams to begin understanding these all-new racing cars, though it is very early days to start predicting who might be where for the season.
With an overhaul of the regulations, it seems fair to assume we’ll see a fair bit of moving and shaking over the course of the season, but the Jag pair sounded happy enough with their results from the running, as we now head into Christmas:
“We’ve been competitive in the sessions, as well as the qualifying simulation which is positive,” said Evans.
“Qualifying is key to success in Formula E so to be at the front of the group gives me confidence. Technically, the Gen3 race car is more complex, but as a team we’ve learned a lot this week and hope to be in a good place in Mexico in a month’s time.”
“I’ve enjoyed discovering the new aspects to our Jaguar I-TYPE 6 on the track this week,” added Bird.
“Everything from the systems and controls to the new Hankook tyre, I’ve embraced the challenge. I can’t wait to be back in Mexico City in January and apply this knowledge to my first race of the season.”
