Maserati Formula E cars
You can never read much into pre-season testing ahead of a motorsport year but Maserati MSG will certainly be happy with how their running went in Valencia last week.
The Gen3 era begins in earnest next month at the Mexico E-Prix, as the 2023 Formula E season kicks off on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, but the teams and drivers were able to get to grips with their all-new racing cars in Valencia, Spain over the last few days in pre-season winter testing.
Indeed, all the teams and drivers clocked up the miles and, though it’s very early days in the championship and a lot will surely change between now and over the course of the campaign, Maserati were looking strong with Max Guenther regularly top of the time-sheets.
Edo Mortara in the other car, meanwhile, also had a decent time of things overall during the week, and he has spoken after testing, saying that there is still so much more to learn about the new cars:
“We can expect a bigger difference but that will come with us exploiting the car better – you will see bigger differences on targets in the race and on target laps because the car is effectively a lot more efficient.
“There’s a lot to discover. We were at the maximum with the Gen2 car last year with software that was exploiting the entire performance available after years of working with those cars and powertrains. We’ve got a lot to learn and there’s a lot more to come.”
Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship begins on Saturday 14 January for the Mexico City E-Prix, with races across the season live on Channel 4 and Eurosport
