We’ve witnessed the evolution of the Mustang nameplate and what might be the pinnacle of its petrol-powered heritage. The seventh generation Mustang being the most powerful and striking iteration to date makes its way into the world of racing once more as a more aggressive and potent Gen3 Mustang.

Usually, we see a full-fledged race car diluted into a road-going version, however, the road-going version of the Gen3 Mustang race car is still something to behold. For now, though, let’s focus on the American firm’s gorgeous race car.

It’s a Mustang. Powered by an American V8 —that is also found in the road-going variants— that retains that beloved modern-day Mustang physique. Diving into the engine bay, a 5,4—litre Coyote based V8 mustering more than 447 kW and 650 Nm, making it more powerful than BMW’s 2022 M4 GT3 car. That hearty power plant is mated to a transaxle six-speed sequential gearbox.

It seems Ford has taken note of Colin Chapmans famous “simplify, then add lightness” line. The interior is complex gutted and equipped with bare essentials to turn left and right, a full cage and a spot to host a skilled driver within the cockpit. Nothing more. All the weight savings have resulted in the Gen3 Mustang tipping the scale at an astonishing 1 200 kg- a few hundred kilos lighter than the road-going version.
Expect all the race car bells and whistles to be present, but the maiden voyage is set to take place at the Furthest 1000 with Bathurst veteran, Dick Johnson piloting this race-refined pony.
“This car looks sensational, it’s loud, it’s fast and we can’t wait to see it hit the track,” —Andrew Birkic, Ford Australia CEO
Bulging haunches and a lower stance are standard. Dominating the flank of the car are 18-inch forged aluminium wheels wrapped in Dunlop Sport MAXX tyres complimenting the segmented depiction of what can only be a raging 4—legged Mustang.

The white and black colour scheme with Ford Blue accents is to die for. A large gloss black front grille accompanied by side air vents is a perfect match to the scowl created by the narrow headlights. A bulging bonnet and almost billboard-sized rear wing are among the many eye-catchers this car has to offer.
The Gen3 Mustang is already on track for some practice sessions, but the 1000k race kicks off on the 9th of October. Look forward to seeing and hearing more of this rowdy racer.
