They’ve been yelling from the hills for quite some time, now: “The GT500 is BACK!! Everybody, get your gas cards filled and your drag strips booked NOW!!” Indeed, the GT500 is back and it’s spectacular – the most powerful Ford ever to leave the factory and so forth.
Thing is, though, while the GT500’s been away for awhile, the GT350 has soldiered on and kept the Shelby name going over at Ford. Not to forget the work that model has done – and to be sure that no one will forget about it once the GT500 drops – Ford has showered a little love on that car, too, for 2020.
While power remains the same at 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, the handling has improved with a new high-trail steering knuckle shared with the GT500 as well as a new steering rack and recalibrated power steering.
Also helping in the handling department is an optional rear-seat delete – yes, similar to the previous generation Boss 302 Laguna Seca edition – as well as carbon fibre wheels and the removal of exhaust resonators. Yes, that will also improve the exhaust note. Which is nice.
Of course, last year’s car had all sorts of stuff you don’t want to lose, so it’s good that the 12 speaker B&O sound, racing stripes, carbon fibre rear spoiler and front splitter are all returning for this year.
