A lineup introduced through four-cylinder sub R500k mark and curtailed by V6 powered Raptor’s, Ford’s Ranger family announces the return of the Stormtrak offshoot. Here’s what we know about the 2023 Ford Ranger Stormtrak which was unveiled in Thailand.
The previous generational model to bear the Stormtrak badge received no more than some slight cosmetic changes to differentiate from the Wildtrak derivative, which it superseded. The new Stormtrak is powered by a 2,0-litre BiTurbo diesel engine producing 155 kW and 500 N.m, which is likely the same heart found in the lower-spec Ford Ranger Wildtrak models that aren’t motivated by the Wildtrak and Raptor’s 3,0-litre V6. The new Stormtrak will be offered in a 4X2 and 4X4 configuration. The power plant is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission utilising e-shifter technology.
“This year, Ford is expanding the ongoing success of next-gen Ford vehicles and is redefining the industry once again with the reveal of our newest variants, which stand out thanks to their next-level innovations and technologies that are designed to fulfil any truck and SUV drivers’ lifestyle.” — Ratthakarn Jutasen, managing director, Ford Thailand
No further information has been provided regarding mechanical changes, if any, but it seems that the new Stormtrak features mostly cosmetic enhancements such as the gradient decal sticker, roller door, 20-inch black alloy wheels, gloss black mirror caps, a roof rack (which is a part of the Flexible Bar System), a gloss black grille punctuated by the glass black fender flares and Stormtrak badges. The Interior is similar to the Wildtrak models except for the Stromtrak name embroidered onto the leather seats.
The 4X2 configuration of the Stormtrak is priced at 1 264 000 Thai Baht or R679 502 based on the current exchange rate. The 4X4 configuration is unsurprisingly priced higher at 1 399 000 Thai Baht or roughly R750 000. No confirmation has been given by Ford South Africa yet on whether we’ll be offered in our markets. Stay tuned for any updates.
