Ford has revealed the final limited-run model of its pinnacle road car, the GT LM Edition.
This special supercar was launched to celebrate Ford’s 2016 Le Mans victory and only 20 units are being produced, with customer deliveries to start within the next few weeks and production to cease no later than the end of 2022.
Before the year draws to a close, fans of the blue oval can also expect the Ford GT Mk II, a limited-edition, track-only GT co-developed by Ford Performance and Multimatic, of which only 45 examples will be built.
Special-edition specs
The Ford GT LM Edition wears Liquid Silver paint on its carbon fibre body, each model finished with either a red or a blue theme throughout “honouring the red and blue race livery of the Le Mans-winning No. 68 Ford GT,” said the American automaker.
This includes the fitment of exposed red or blue-tinted carbon fibre on the front splitter, side and door sills, engine bay louvres, mirror stalks, and rear diffuser.
Exposed gloss carbon fibre 20-inch wheels with corresponding red or blue inner-barrel accents, plus titanium lug nuts and Brembo brake calipers in black continues the limited-edition look.
As a model-unique design element, the GT LM also gets a 3D titanium-printed dual-exhaust featuring a “cyclonic design” inside the tips, along with a titanium GT LM badge.
As a final, and maybe the coolest nod to Ford’s 2016 podium, the company located the third-place 2016 Ford GT race car’s engine that was disassembled and shelved after the race, ground down the crankshaft into a powder, and developed a bespoke alloy used to 3D print the instrument panel badge for each of the 20 special-edition GT LMs.
The cabin of the GT LM is endowed with exclusive appointments such as Alcantara-wrapped carbon fibre seats with a matching red or blue driver’s seat, and an Ebony passenger seat with accent stitching that matches the driver’s seat colour, as well as the engine start button.
The instrument panel is wrapped in Ebony leather and Alcantara, the pillars and headliner are in Ebony Alcantara, and carbon fibre cues continue appearing on the console, vent surrounds, and A-pillar in a matte finish.
As always, the supercar is powered by the fire-breathing 3.5-litre, twin-turbocharged V6 engine developing 492kW and 746Nm, rocketing it to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds with a maximum of 350km/h on the cards.
