Ford has announced a price increase for its all-electric F-150 Lightning. “Due to significant material cost increases and other factors,” prices for the F-150 Lightning will increase by $6,000 to $8,500 depending on the variant.
The price increases do not apply to existing purchasers, according to Ford. The timing of the announcement is also well chosen: On Thursday, new orders from the next wave of reservation holders will be accepted again. They will then have to order at the new prices.
There is a special arrangement for reservation holders who had already received an invitation to order but then decided to extend their reservation because the desired equipment was not yet available. These customers will receive a “private use offer in upcoming waves”, Ford said.
The base model F-150 Lightning Pro will cost $46,974, an increase of $7,000 or nearly 18 per cent. That means Ford’s big electric pickup is now well above the $40,000 mark, which is important for many manufacturers. The next highest trim, the XLT, becomes $6,500 more expensive and will cost $59,474 (up from $52,974).
The cheapest model with the large extended-range battery is the XLT High, which will cost $80,974 with the large battery in future – with the small battery, this equipment will cost $12,500 less. An interesting detail: the XLT High with the small battery is only $6,000 more expensive, so the premium for the large battery has been increased. In the Lariat version, where customers also have the choice between the two battery versions, the large battery costs 11,500 dollars more. Top model remains the Platinum Extended Range, which is listed at $96,874.
With the announcement before the opening of the new wave of orders, Ford has probably learned from customer reactions from April. Back then, the manufacturer had raised the prices for the Mustang Mach-E sharply overnight without announcement – by up to 9,000 euros for the basic version.
