Ford won't offer it as a factory option, so someone else will.
The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is the pinnacle Mustang experience currently available from the factory. Using the company's supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8 under the hood, it delivers 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels exclusively through a Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
With that much power, it would be a lot of hard work if the transmission employed the six-speed manual gearbox which is available on lower-tier models. HPJ Performance acknowledges that some adrenaline junkies are up to the challenge which is why it has created a manual conversion for this flagship muscle car. The firm says that it can install this gearbox with any of the performance upgrades that it currently offers, ranging from 750 wheel horsepower to 1,200 whp.

For this exchange, it employs the Tremec T-56 Magnum XL double-overdrive six-speed which is rated for over 700 lb-ft. This is joined by an SFI safety-approved bell housing and flywheel. The driver controls these gear via a six-speed ball Tremec shifter and OEM Ford pedal assembly. The choice of clutch system is based on the power output and usage of the owner's car.
To create a clean finish in the interior, HPJ Performance also includes a new center console with your choice of a leather or suede gear shift boot. Completing the package is a set of factory hydraulics, an upgraded driveshaft that accommodates the gearbox, a new transmission cross-member and poly bushings, a bespoke calibration for the new transmission, and a factory-standard speedometer.
HPJ Performance doesn't only focus on transmission swaps. Currently, it has five conclusive upgrade packages for the GT500 as well as a unique customization program. The flagship conversion is a 1,200-hp twin-turbo package that sells for $35,500. The entry-level upgrade is a 750-whp package at $2,499 that includes a cold air intake and more efficient spark plugs.
Manual transmissions are becoming a rarity as each year passes. As cars deliver more power and automatic technology improves, manufacturers see more sense in excluding manuals from their offerings. A recent patent from Ford reveals that it is trying to preserve this transmission by introducing a clutch-less control to make the operation easier for less-capable drivers.
