The history shared between Ford and the legendary Le Mans endurance race is, at least in broad strokes, well known by the automotive world and racing communities. Though the two names together almost certainly invoke imagery of a bygone era; GT40’s chasing down Ferraris of the 1960’s.
Well, let’s not forget about Ford’s own 21st century returns to the French road course; and the Blue Oval is doing its part to remind you with the final GT special edition: the GT LM.
The LM is a callback to Ford’s racing wins at Le Mans, now paying tribute to the make and model’s relatively recent victory in 2016. The 2022 Ford GT LM is the final third-generation special edition model, joining the ranks of other final model year variants like the Moody Heritage Edition and Alan Mann Heritage Edition. That being said, the GT LM does serve as some homage to the legendary 1-2-3 podium sweep of 1966; after all, practically every second- and third-generation Ford GT made inherently does.
Adorning the carbon fiber bodywork is a Liquid Silver paint job, contrasted by either red or blue accents throughout. This color work is a nod to the 2016 winner’s red and blue livery, car No. 68. Consumers can opt between red or blue tinted carbon fiber, exposed through the GT’s lower aero work– the front splitter, side sills, and rear diffuser– plus the mirror stalks and engine bay louvers. Matching that is a set of carbon fiber 20-inch wheels; glossy black finish on the face with red or blue inner barrels. Those Brembo brakes are instead finished in black, regardless of accent color.
Under those louvers is the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, twin turbocharged to produce 660-horsepower. It’s plenty capable of throwing you back in your seat, as we discovered back in 2018. Speaking of seats, the cabin is wrapped in Alcantara and carbon fiber; the driver’s seat is red or blue, whilst the passenger’s seat is black. Accent stitching is abundant across all parts, though the most impressive interior trimming is the instrumental panel. It is 3D printed by grounded down alloy from the third place, No. 69 GT’s crankshaft.
That alone should give an idea as to the Ford GT LM’s exclusivity; and exclusive it is. The LM is limited to just 20 units, expected to reach lucky consumers this fall.
