Ford GT LM Edition pays homage to Le Mans-winning racer
Back in 2016, the Ford GT bearing the 68 number emerged victorious in its class at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. Sébastien Bourdais, Joey Hand and Dirk Müller were joined on the podium by Ryan Briscoe, Scott Dixon and Richard Westbrook of Ford GT number 69 after scoring third place.
To celebrate the win, Ford has announced a special GT LM Edition that'll be offered in very limited numbers. By limited, the Blue Oval firm means only 20 units will be delivered to customers in selected markets.
The Ford GT LM Edition features a carbon fibre body coated in Liquid Silver Exterior paint and customers can choose to have a red or blue theme throughout as a nod to the red and blue race livery of the Le Mans-winning GT racer. It can also be had either in exposed red or blue-tinted carbon fibre for the front splitter, side sills, door sills, engine bay louvres, mirror stalks and rear diffuser.
The car rides on exposed gloss carbon fibre 20″ wheels with either red or black inner-barrel accents and titanium nuts. The wheels are home to black-painted Brembo brake callipers.
The interior isn't short on style, thanks to Alcantara-wrapped carbon fibre seats that feature a matching red or blue driver's seat.
As for the instrument cluster, it's covered with a combination of Ebony leather and Alcantara. The pillars and headliner are wrapped in Ebony Alcantara while the console, vent registers and lower A-pillars get a carbon fibre matte finish.
Powering the GT LM Edition is the firm's 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine that gushes out 492 kW of power and 746 Nm of torque channelled to the rear wheels through a 7-speed automatic transmission. This is the same setup found in the current GT model.
Ford plans to deliver the GT LM Edition to customers before the end of the year before it officially shuts down the GT's assembly.
