► The final Ford GT supercar is announced► The LM Edition is the farewell derivative
► Just 20 will be built before production ends
Always fancied the Ford GT supercar, but never got round to signing on the dotted line? You’d better be quick, as the Blue Oval has announced the end of the line – with this LM Edition special.
Just 20 will be built, bringing the curtain down on the second generation of Ford GT. Production ends towards the end of 2022.
The Ford GT LM Edition is designed to mark America’s only Le Mans-winning race car that won in 2016 and the historic 1-2-3 clean sweep in 1966 by the original GT40.
Ford GT LM Edition: ingredients of the final edition
Highlights of the farewell special include:
- Pick from red or blue design details inspired by 2016 Le Mans livery
- Exposed red or blue-tinted carbonfibre on front splitter, side sills and rear diffuser
- Matching seat upholstery
- Unique 3D-printed features – including dashboard plinth made from ground-down crankshaft from the 2016 Ford GT Le Mans racer (below)
It’s very much a details car: there is no mechanical change to the 3.5-litre Ecoboost V6 or powertrain, only further cosmetic upgrades. Look closely and you’ll notice the 20-inch alloy wheels are updated with the red/blue colour scheme and the Brembo brake callipers are finished in a black lacquer.
Ford GT: a quick history
This is the third generation of the Ford GT family – a modern take on the iconic road and track-going supercar inspired by the 1960s GT40. It remains the only model wearing the Blue Oval badge to compete in the rarefied 200mph+ club.
The timeline runs thus:
- Ford GT40 Mk1: 1960-1971
- Ford GT Mk2: 2004-2006
- Ford GT Mk3: 2016-2022
Although still listed on the Ford UK website, it is not known if any of the final run-out Ford GT models will be offered to British collectors.
