Ford has revealed an all-new E-Tourneo Courier for the European market, a small electric minivan that looks like the lovechild of the Bronco Sport and the Transit Connect.
The E-Tourneo Courier is powered by a 136-horsepower e-motor, and its undisclosed-capacity battery can be recharged rapidly, with DC fast-charging providing 54 miles of range in 10 mins and a 0-80% charge taking 35 mins. Its range remains a mystery, however, and will only be published at a later date.
Should electric mobility not be your thing, Ford will release a gas-powered variant later with a 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder EcoBoost motor and 123 hp.
All E-Tourneo models will offer a one-pedal driving mode, along with driver-assist features that should make commuting a cinch. Visually, the E-Tourneo Courier is a boxy little thing that makes the most of its compact footprint while borrowing styling cues from other products in the Ford stable, including the F-150 Lightning and the Bronco Sport. The inspiration from the latter is particularly visible in the Active trim seen here, which adds black wheel cladding, two-tone paintwork, and model-specific upholstery that lends it a crossover aesthetic.
The interior has been designed to accommodate five adults and their luggage, with 60/40 split-folding rear bench seats providing extra versatility. Only marginally larger than the model it replaces, it has 44% more trunk space than its predecessor.
In addition to the standard cargo hold, the E-Tourneo Courier has the benefit of a frunk measuring 1.56 cu ft. Aside from the frunk, clever storage bins are littered throughout the cabin, including a configurable center console and a concealed trunk stowage area.
A 12-inch infotainment screen with SYNC4 software dominates proceedings in the cabin, featuring standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a wireless charging pad. A digital instrumentation display also features, and the electric Ford is capable of receiving over-the-air updates to introduce new features to the vehicle at the touch of a button.
“We designed E-Tourneo Courier to help customers get the most out of life – whether out with family and friends or coming home with the rear seats flipped and bikes in the back – and the exterior design expresses that 'no-nonsense' character,” said Ford Europe's design director, Amko Leenarts. “The SUV-inspired design is rugged outside and roomy inside, while the modern EV details add exclusivity and clearly announce E-Tourneo Courier as part of Ford's electric revolution.”
The E-Tourneo Connect will be built at Ford's facility in Craiova, Romania, with production expected to kick off in the second half of 2024. The electric van will be built alongside the stylish Puma crossover, which will also spawn an electric variant next year. This is one of seven new EVs planned by Ford.
In the past year, Ford Europe has released several new electric vehicles, including the E-Tourneo Connect's commercial sibling, the E-Transit Connect. Ford also launched an all-electric Explorer (based on Volkswagen underpinnings) for the European market.
