After five years, Ford is marking the end of the third-generation Ford GT’s production with a limited-edition variant that pays tribute to the carmaker’s Le-Mans-winning heritage. Dubbed the Ford GT LM, the car is a direct nod to Ford’s 2016 performance at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. It was a competition where No. 68 and No. 69 Ford GT race cars took first and third place in the LM GTE-Pro class, fifty years after the historic 1-2-3 podium sweep in 1966.
The 2022 Ford GT LM Edition boasts carbon-fibre bodywork mostly finished in liquid silver, complemented with a choice of either red or blue accents – colours inspired by the livery worn by the race-winning 2016 Ford GT – that underscore the lower aerodynamics of the car. For the interior, the Alcantara-wrapped carbon-fibre driver’s seat will match the customer’s colour choice for the exterior accents. In contrast, the passenger seat remains black, giving the layout an asymmetric appearance.
Also unique to the GT LM Edition is a 3D titanium-printed dual-exhaust system. However, the design highlight has to be the instrument panel badge. Ford located the third-place No. 69 GT race car, ground the crankshaft into powder, and created a bespoke alloy from it, then used it to make said badge. Talk about metal.

According to Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, this was a way “to inject even more heart and soul from a podium-finishing race car, furthering the tribute to our 2016 Le Mans win.” The powertrain is unchanged from the standard model, which means the GT LM Edition gets a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged Ford EcoBoost V6 that puts out a breezy 660 hp, enough for a sub-3.0-second blast to 60 mph (96 km/h) and a 216-mph (347-km/h) top speed.
To preserve its exclusivity, only 20 examples of the Ford GT LM Edition will be produced. The first customer deliveries kick off this fall, with production wrapping up later in the year. Unsurprisingly, there was no mention of the pricing in the official release. As with most limited-series cars, the sticker price is hardly a concern for eager buyers waiting to snap them up. It is worth noting, though, that the regular 2022 Ford GT starts at around US$500,000 MSRP.
